Under-fire West Midlands Police chief’s refusal to go is dragging force into crisis of trust

Police farce

WEST Midlands police chief Craig Guildford is deluding himself if he thinks he can cling on having lost the confidence of the Home Secretary.

His shameful betrayal of Jewish football fans — and appeasement of violent Islamist thugs — leaves him unfit for office.

Shabana Mahmood was right yesterday to condemn the web of lies and cover-ups he presided over — and to say she wants to wrest back powers to sack failing Chief Constables.

Guildford clearly should do the decent thing and resign rather than risk bringing the police into disrepute by hanging on and hoping the local Labour police and crime commissioner will save him.

But what must happen now is a relentless focus from West Midlands Police on the Islamists sewing division and discrimination in Birmingham.

That means rooting out hate preachers who still flourish in some rogue mosques.

Ed Miliband’s electric car bullying will leave drivers stranded

And no more pandering to local politicians more interested in what is going on in Gaza and Pakistan than on the rubbish-strewn streets of our second city.

That’s the only way for the cops to win back public trust.

Ed’s blown it

LABOUR promised to cut energy bills for households and businesses.

Yesterday Ed Miliband signed a giant offshore wind farm deal so expensive that it smashed any hope of delivering on that pledge.

Not only has the Energy Secretary added £1.8billion to bills, he agreed to the highest electricity unit price in a decade.

Miliband is paying MORE for wind than for gas once carbon taxes are removed.

Britain is also locked into this dreadful deal for the next 20 years.

Consumers have been endlessly promised that renewables like wind and solar will deliver cheap power eventually.

This agreement shows they are just as costly as ever.

Once again, Miliband has put crazed green ideology over getting a good deal for the taxpayer.

Got no IDea

WATCHING ministers insist there had been no Government U-turn on digital ID made you wonder about their grip on reality.

Last year Keir Starmer said he wanted to introduce compulsory digital identity cards for all Brits.

Now his Cabinet team claim all they ever wanted to do was bring in ID checks for work. That is simply not true.

The PM — having apparently entered Downing Street with no clear plan of how to govern — made up the policy on the hoof, then ditched it when it turned out to be wildly unpopular.

No amount of spin will convince the public otherwise.
