A KILLER drink driver who claimed he was too injured to be prosecuted has been exposed as a liar by videos of him dancing, playing rugby and drinking.
Stephen Naylor, 41, killed motorcyclist Owen Baugh on the M62 near Liverpool in April 2021.
He was driving at speeds of up to 120mph when he drove his Audi into the back of Owen’s motorbike, throwing him further into the road.
The 23-year-old victim from Manchester was then fatally hit by another vehicle.
Stephen was also left seriously injured after being impaled on a wooden fence when his car veered off the road.
Although he spent several weeks in hospital after the crash the injuries he sustained did not have the lasting effects the father-of-four and his wife claimed they did.
The couple hugely exaggerated the extent of his injuries to prevent him from facing justice and serving the time he deserved.
Cops discovered pictures and videos of Stephen dancing, playing rugby, kayaking, going on boat trips and holidaying abroad.
Since the crash he attended his brother’s wedding and gave a speech at the event, with photos showing him helping someone climb up a tree, proving he is not injured enough to evade justice.
Even in the face of arrest Stephen and his wife Lisa thought they could trick the authorities and keep up their sinister lies.
Police bodycam footage of his arrest from Merseyside Police shows the couple attempting to continue the deceit.
Lisa told officers: “There might be too many people he’s got a brain injury he might be a bit overwhelmed.
“This all seems a little bit too much. He’s obviously got a brain injury he can’t exactly run anywhere,” she added.
Stephen even pretends to look around confused when cops enter his home, as if pretending he has the brain injury his wife claims.
Stephen then uses crutches and an officer’s help to leave his house.
The lies began shortly after Stephen was discharged from hospital in June 2021 after he failed to provide a blood specimen to police.
However, he was cleared of this offence in July 2023 when a psychiatrist said he had presented as ‘distressed’ and ‘hyperventilating’ during a video link consultation.
Lisa claimed that her partner’s memory had worsened, and he had issues with his “walking and gait”.
Officers later found out that she had been sent a video of her husband playing rugby in April 2023 and text messages laid out their plans to go to an eighties disco night.
In June and July 2023 Stephen was captured on video visiting supermarkets Aldi and Morrisons and carrying his own shopping.
The couple were formally interviewed about this evidence in October 2024.
Stephen was jailed for 12 years after he admitted causing death by dangerous driving as well as perverting the course of justice.
Lisa was also charged with perverting the course of justice and sentenced to four and a half years in prison.
The family of killed motorcyclist Owen issued a statement saying: “Since Mr Naylor’s actions on the night of 25 April 2021, our lives have come to a total, devastating stop.
“The ripple effect has travelled as far as America, Pakistan and Dubai where some of his best friends now live. His girlfriend still struggles to live a normal life.
“We would like to thank all the emergency services who dealt with the horrific incident on that night and members of the public who helped to try and divert traffic around the incident.
“A special thank you to Merseyside Police and in particular Sgt Andy Roper, Claire and Jack for their determined effort to bring this evil individual who has never shown an ounce of remorse since day one to justice.”
