A FORMER Spandau Ballet singer raped a woman and filmed himself groping another as he felt he could get “sex on demand”, a court heard.
Ross Davidson – known to fans as Ross Wild – is said to have forced himself on an alleged victim while she was asleep at his London home.
He is accused of attempting to do the same to another woman he met while holidaying in Thailand.
A jury at Wood Green Crown Court heard that the former star of Queen musical We Will Rock You has a “darker side” and “expects to get sex on demand”.
Richard Hearnden, prosecuting, said Davidson, 37, became “a bit of a sex symbol” as frontman of small-time band Mercutio and after spending a year as the lead singer for 80’s band Spandau Ballet in 2018.
He told jurors: “He is handsome and athletic. He sings, plays the guitar, and is said to be charming and charismatic. But there are two women who say that he has a much darker side that they did not notice, at least at first. That is what this case is all about.
“Men such as the defendant, it is often supposed, can get any girl he wants without having to resort to committing sexual offences, without having to resort to forcing himself on women, without having to resort to rape.
“After all, he is attractive and possesses charisma and charm.
“Yet, the reality belies that supposition. It is because Ross Davidson expects to get sex on demand that he will resort to rape and sexual assault if he is not given what he thinks he deserves.”
The court heard how Davidson met the alleged rape victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on dating app Plenty of Fish in 2012.
They are said to have had a brief “fling” before losing touch for two years.
Mr Hearnden said they made arrangements for her to visit him for a weekend at his home in Finchley, North London in March 2015 after exchanging “flirty messages”.
But the woman told police that when she arrived his “manner had changed” to become “more assertive and…agressive.”
Mr Hearnden said she recalled the Aberdeen-born singer saying to her that he “liked the idea of having sexual intercourse with a ‘model’…sex with a dummy, a mannequin, a doll”.
He added: “He told her that he liked the idea of the other person, the woman, being dead still and not showing any emotion and not reacting to the sexual act at all. It was a fantasy.”
The court heard how the following morning she woke up in the defendant’s bed to find him raping her.
She is said to have managed to “extricate herself” before leaving and never speaking to him again.
The woman reported him to police in 2023 after learning he had been charged with similar offences.
Davidson denies raping her.
Jurors were also told how cops found a video of another woman on the defendant’s phone which had been taken on the Thai island of Phuket in December 2019.
Mr Hearnden told the court the woman was “asleep, still and unresponsive” in the clip in which a man, said to be Davidson, could be seen on camera groping her breasts.
Police identified the alleged sexual assault victim and when they interviewed her, she told them the singer had also attempted to rape her after they met on Tinder while she was travelling.
The pair had what she described as consensual “drunk sex” after meeting, but when she woke in the morning she told cops that Davidson was attempting to rape her.
She described being “very afraid” and acknowledging that it was “a very dangerous situation to be in”.
Mr Hearnden said the pair spent the following day together but the woman “felt a palpable sense of danger in the defendant’s company” which didn’t go away.
Davidson denies sexual assault and attempted rape.
The jury was told he has pleaded guilty to one count of voyeurism relating to the video.
The trial continues.
