Jeremy Clarkson baffled as Millionaire Hot Seat contestant tripped up by basic days of the week question – but can YOU solve it?

Jeremy Clarkson was left baffled after a Millionaire Hot Seat contestant tripped up over a basic days of the week question on Wednesday’s instalment of the ITV show – but can you solve it?

The 65-year-old returned to our screens with six new players racing against the clock to try and get their hands on £1 million.

Nabeel Nauzer, Alan Lothian, Kathie Nissan, Kieron Kambo, Jinal Omitola and Bryony Retter were the contestants who appeared on the latest episode of the spin-off.

Right at the beginning of the show, presenter Jeremy revealed that Nabeel was first up to take the hot seat, and if he answered 15 questions correctly, he’d win the incredible cash prize.

The host made it clear that where it differs from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire is that the players do have the option to pass, but they then have to go to the back of the queue, and if they get a question wrong, the prize money shrinks and they have to go home.

Unfortunately Nauzer struggled with the third £300 question: ‘The French phrase ‘vendredi soir’ translates into English as what?’

He was given the options: A) Last Monday, B) Next Wednesday, C) Friday evening, D) Sunday morning.

Nauzer confessed: ‘So I think here I’d like to use my pass.’

Jeremy replied: ‘Okie dokie. Not a French speaker then?’

‘Unfortunately not,’ Nauzer told him.

The player had to then go and join the back of the queue.

Although the programme didn’t reveal the correct answer, it does translate to Friday evening.

Millionaire Hot Seat hit our screens on January 6 2026, after filming started in November last year.

Unfortunately the show has been branded an ‘awful rehash’ by furious fans who hit out with a series of scathing complaints.

Host Jeremy described the show as a ‘pure concentrated Who Wants To Be A Millionaire juice – no lifelines, no hesitating, and five people waiting to jump into the chair when someone makes a mess of things.’

Viewers at home were less than impressed with the action, and quickly took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to complain about the format – as contestants struggled to answer in the new shorter question time frame.

One fan raged: ‘These people all like the sound of their own voices…..or think they’re on regular WWTBAM…’ as another added: ‘Can’t they just answer the b****y question and stop talking sh**e all the b****rd time!’

Someone else penned: ‘Do they realise how long 15 seconds is? Stop yapping,’ while a fourth wrote: ‘Just answer the question!’

‘How many nights is this on? Awful rehash of the show. I give it one series,’ another viewer wrote, agreeing with someone else who said: ‘It’s bloody awful. Just turns it into a guessing game without any strategy and decision making.’

‘It’s kind of like the quiz show version of speed dating,’ another chimed in, as someone else added: ‘This new #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire format is horrendous.’

Others admitted that they ‘quite liked’ the change to the series, which has been on air since 1998.

The first episode saw winner Simon Williams, a firefighter from London, take home £20,000 after winning the prize money with a ‘total guess’.

He was asked by Jeremy: ‘Which of these characters has not appeared in a filmed directed by Ridley Scott?’ and given the answers Hannibal Lecter, Rick Deckard, Paul Atreides and Ellen Ripley.

Making a guess with Paul Atreides, the main character from the Dune films, he bagged the cash, which he said he would spend on taking his daughter on holiday, his girlfriend to the Maldives and getting his son a football season ticket.

Elsewhere, Jeremy highlighted just how brutal the game can be when a woman was instantly eliminated after failing to answer a passed question.

She was asked what was not an ingredient of a typical Caesar salad and given the options anchovies, croutons, garlic or feta cheese.

Incorrectly guessing the answer, Jeremy waved goodbye to the player saying: ‘I’m afraid we do now have to say goodbye, what a brutal game! It’s so brutal.’

Millionaire Hot Seat continues tonight on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
