SAINSBURY’S supermarket bosses have launched an investigation after one of their stores sold Tesco-branded milk by mistake.

Warehouse and shop staff blunders led to the rival chain’s “Fresher for Longer” being put on their shelves.

Employees and shoppers only realised when the Tesco blue-topped milk would not scan at tills and triggered an error message.

It is thought there was a mix-up at a supplier, which delivers to both chains.

Sainsbury’s staff then wheeled out trolleys of the Tesco milk to shelves at the store in Canley, Coventry.

One shopper using a hand scanner said online: “Whoops… I told a member of staff.

“They could not get them off the shelf quickly enough.”

Sainsbury’s told The Sun: “They were quickly removed and returned to the supplier.

“We’re working with them to understand what happened and apologise for any confusion this may have caused.”

After a similar incident in 2012 in Ely, Cambs, Tesco said: “It’s good to see Sainsbury’s has got great taste in milk.”
