Ruben Amorim sets new unwanted piece of Prem history with Man Utd draw at Leeds

RUBEN AMORIM has set another unwanted record during his Manchester United tenure.

Amorim saw his Red Devils limp to a 1-1 draw at Leeds, with Matheus Cunha‘s strike cancelling out Brenden Aaronson‘s opener just three minutes earlier.

The 40-year-old boss launched a stunning attack on the club hierarchy after the game, fuming that he was not happy to be called the “head coach” of the club.

As put by SunSport’s United correspondent Samuel Luckhurst, Amorim has effectively dared club chiefs to sack him amid an expected lack of movement during the winter transfer window.

His next public appearance will be in front of the media on Tuesday to preview the match with Burnley.

But if he does go before then, Amorim has made a new addition to the United history books.

And once again it is not in the good fashion United fans would want.

After conceding at Elland Road, United have yet again failed to keep a clean sheet away from home in the Premier League.

According to Squawka, that means the Red Devils have gone 15 games without a shutout on the road – the first time they have ever done so.

Among his records also include having the worst win rate of any United gaffer post Sir Alex Ferguson, while earlier this season the club made its worst start to the season since 1992/93.

Furthermore United have only won back-to-back league games on one occasion in the 14 months since Amorim took charge – the purple patch in October which saw United win three in a row amid a five-game unbeaten run.

Amorim has been left frustrated by an expected lack of activity in the January transfer window with the club still desperately needing upgrades in a number of positions, most prominently centre-midfield.

His contract expires in 2027, and in his explosive presser post-Leeds he suggested he might be forced out BEFORE then.

He said: “I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach of Manchester United

“And that is clear. I know that my name is not Tuchel, it’s not Conte, it’s not Mourinho, but I’m the manager of Manchester United.

“And it’s going to be like this for 18 months or when the board decides to change. So that was my point. I want to finish with that.

“I’m not going to quit. I will do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me.

“I just want to say that I’m going to be the manager of this team, not just the coach.

“And I was really clear on that. And that is going to finish in 18 months and then everyone is going to move on. That was the deal.

“That is my job, not to be a coach. If people cannot handle the Gary Nevilles and the criticisms of everything, we need to change the club.

“I just want to say that I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach.”

Laboured draws – perhaps unsurprising given the absences of key members of the squad through injury and Afcon duties – against Wolves and Leeds have seen United fail to breach the top four during a time when rivals in similar positions have dropped points.

With the Manchester Derby and an away trip to league leaders Arsenal coming up, United face slipping down the table and away from the European spots which will be crucial to engineering the desperately needed continued squad rebuild.
