ARMED cops have arrested five men who were arguing over a parking space in a shopping centre car park during the Boxing Day sales.

Cops were scrambled to the Metrocentre in Gateshead on Saturday afternoon following the heated dispute.

Armed police officers were present at the scene following reports that one of the men was carrying a suspected firearm.

Northumbria Police arrested five men – aged 17, 18, 20, 21, and 23 – soon after in connection to the firearm report.

However, no weapon was reportedly found at the scene and they have been released on bail as investigations continue.
