Joshua Zirkzee ‘AGREES to £35million January transfer exit’ as Man Utd flop handed career lifeline at European giants

MANCHESTER UNITED flop Joshua Zirkzee has reportedly agreed to join Roma in January.

Zirkzee, 24, joined United from Bologna in 2024 in a whopping £36.5million deal but has yet to live up to the billing.

Zirkzee is looking for regular minutes ahead of the 2026 World Cup

The striker has fallen down the pecking order and managed just one goal in 12 appearances so far this season.

Reports claim that the lack of minutes has prompted the Netherlands international to look for pastures new as he is determined to secure a spot ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

And, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Zirkzee held positive talks with Roma sporting director Ricky Massara and manager Gian Piero Gasperini, over a winter switch.

The same source claims Gasperini “reassured” the Dutchman he will fit into his 3-4-2-1 formation by playing him in any of the front-three roles.

But, if a move comes to fruition, Zirkzee will not leave before mid-January as Man Utd will need Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo back from the Africa Cup of Nations.

Roma are believed to be looking to strike an initial six-month loan deal.

That could include an obligation to buy in the summer for a sum worth around £35m.

However, United boss Ruben Amorim recently stated he is not keen to let players go unless replacements are sorted first.

Amorim said: “It’s going to be hard for someone to leave the club if we don’t get a substitution.

“We are short. Even with the full squad we are short for something that can happen.

“We are a club with a big responsibility. We are dealing with all these issues and in [the media’s] heads, in my head, in everybody’s head, we need to win every game.

“It doesn’t matter. There are no excuses.”
