THE last cracker has been pulled and the guests have gone, leaving behind a scene of glittery chaos.
Now is the time for a post-Christmas clean-up, using what you already have at home.
Here’s how . . .
STOCKING STUFFER: Those novelty Christmas socks that aren’t quite your style?
They make brilliant dusting mitts.
Just pop one on your hand to polish banisters, shelves and TV screens.
CITRUS CLEANER: Save leftover clementine and lemon peels and add them to a jar of white wine vinegar.
Steep them in the liquid overnight and you will have a fresh-scented, all-purpose cleaner.
Use it to wipe sticky surfaces, kitchen counters and windows.
SODA SCRUB: For those grimy post-Christmas oven shelves, scorched pans or stained mugs, your best friend is bicarbonate of soda.
Make a thick paste with water, smear it on and leave it to work its magic overnight. Get a 500g box for £1.49 at Savers stores now.
PAPER POWER: The empty cardboard tube from your wrapping-paper roll is a secret cleaning weapon for those hard-to-reach places.
Cover one end with a rubber band and a microfibre cloth to create a perfect duster for blinds and tricky ceiling corners.
FIZZ FIXER: Is your fridge full of half-finished bottles of fizz?
Flat lemonade or cola is brilliant for loosening baked-on grime in pots and pans or for helping to lift stubborn stains from toilets.
Pour it in, leave for anywhere from half an hour to overnight, depending on the stains, then pour or flush away.
PINE FRESH: Sweeping up fallen pine needles from a cut Christmas tree?
Don’t chuck them out!
Add a handful to your window cleaner or all-purpose cleaning spray and they will infuse into the liquid and leave a fresh pine scent as you clean the house.
You could also place a handful in a small fabric bag and pop in your airing cupboard to give sheets a pine scent.
