That particular item has a starting price of $5,000 and carries with it some difficult memories for the 45-year-old.

Terry was called upon to take the decisive penalty in the 2008 Champions League Final after Cristiano Ronaldo‘s miss left the Red Devils on the edge of defeat.

But Terry slipped as he struck the ball, which cannoned off the right post and away from goal in Moscow.

Terry has since opened up on the hefty toll the moment took on him, and admitted that he even thought about taking his own life following the loss.

But now he is channelling his heartbreak towards a good cause as he looks to move on some of his old memorabilia in the £120,000 auction.

The proceeds of the auction will go towards the John Terry Foundation, which supports a variety of charities around the country.

As well as the infamous shirt, the former England icon is also auctioning the strip that he wore when he lifted the 2011/12 Champions League Trophy in full kit, despite having been suspended for the match itself.

Other iconic shirts include those from the last games of his Chelsea career and his career overall, listed at $1,000 (£740).

But the marquee item of Terry’s is his Premier League winners medal from the 2004/05 season, the first modern Prem title for himself and the club, valued at $100,000 (£74,000) alone.

He is also flogging shirts given to him by legends of the game including a United kit signed by Ronaldo, a Lionel Messi kit and kits worn and signed by Thierry Henry and Gianluigi Buffon.

Terry is selling the items in partnership with Goldin Auctions, an auctioneer that specialises in sports and entertainment memorabilia.

The auction will go live in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
