KING Charles could be the first reigning monarch to visit the US in 20 years, as Prince William is also likely lining up a trip across the pond for the FIFA World Cup.
The two-pronged charm offensive reportedly planned for 2026 would line up with America’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
William, who is president of the Football Association, is expected to visit North America during the World Cup, The Times reported.
The tournament is being held in the US, Canada and Mexico between June and July.
It’s the first time three nations jointly host the championship.
Advanced talks are apparently also under way to have the King visit the US in April, which would make him the first British monarch to visit since 2007.
17 years ago, Queen Elizabeth made a State Visit to America with the Duke of Edinburgh, accepting an invitation from George Bush.
Negotiations over a UK trade deal with the US continue, following Donald Trump’s UK trip in September.
Despite making the announcement for a tech partnership during the State Visit, Washington paused the £31 billion super alliance earlier this month.
Discussions continue between Britain and the United States in an effort to formalising the multi-million-pound investment in British tech.
The deal was reportedly designed to take on and defeat China in the new technological arms race.
It was months in the making and would have brought billions of pounds of investment to the UK and create thousands of jobs, government insiders said.
Earlier in December, Downing Street said the Government was still in “active conversations” with the US on the tech deal.
But the Prime Minister’s spokesman acknowledged that “negotiations of this kind are never straightforward”.
Reports suggested US negotiators had become frustrated by slow progress in agreeing a wider trade deal announced in May 2025, when Britain avoided the 20 percent tariffs Trump imposed on much of the rest of the world.
Britain’s digital services tax, opposed by Trump’s big tech backers, and the sensitive issue of greater access to British markets for US farmers, are thought to be key sticking points.
It comes after Trump and First Lady Melania made history at the second State Visit, after his first in 2019.
The President enjoyed a royal flypast, a carriage ride with Princess Kate and a grand state banquet amongst other meetings during his three-day tour.
The US leader praised the Princess of Wales in his speech at the lavish state banquet at Windsor Castle.
Mr Trump said: “His Majesty has also raised a remarkable son in His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales. Really amazing.
“We’ve gotten to know you and I think you’re going to have an unbelievable success in future.
“Melania and I are delighted to visit again with Prince William and to see Her Royal Highness, Princess Catherine, so radiant and so healthy, it’s so beautiful. It’s really a great honour, thank you.”
The Princess of Wales stunned in a champagne gold Chantilly lace evening coat over a silk crepe gown.
