The Blues are fourth in the Premier League – ten points off Arsenal at the summit of the table.

The January transfer window would offer them the chance to further add to the squad in order to try and mount a push for the title.

However, the club must first clear up space in the squad and as many as six players could leave Stamford Bridge, according to The Athletic.

One player Chelsea will be keen to move on is former Manchester City and Liverpool star Raheem Sterling.

The winger is soaking up a staggering wage of £325,000-a-week and is set to run until 2027 and has not played all season.

The Blues will have to find a club to take on Sterling but the star is keen on a stable permanent move, having rejected a loan abroad in the summer.

Axel Disasi is another player who Maresca will be keen to see out of his squad.

Like Sterling, the defender has not been involved with the senior squad all season long.

He has reportedly had the interest of a Ligue 1 side over a loan deal but Chelsea would prefer a permanent sale or domestic loan.

A loan abroad would be more difficult for the Blues to facilitate, as they have already used their allocation of six international loan spots.

The report has also claimed that Filip Jorgensen is keen on a switch away from West London.

The Danish goalkeeper wants to get more first-team football but Chelsea are not sure about changing their options between the sticks.

Other stars that could head for the exit door are Deivid Washington and Sam Rak-Sakyi.

Neither have made a first-team appearance this season and could be set for loans in the new year.

Tyrique George, 19, is a surprise name on the list of players who could leave in January.

The exciting winger has made his mark in the first team but does have limited minutes with competitions such as Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho.

He has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season and scored three times.

This includes a goal against Dutch giants Ajax in the Champions League.

But in the Prem he has only made four appearances and has not scored or assisted a goal.

It is believed he has a lot of interest from England’s top-flight and beyond and could be snatched away from Chelsea.

Chelsea’s international loans

Chelsea have already got six players out on loan away from England which could cause issues in January with other exits…

  1. Mike Penders on loan at Strasbourg, France
  2. Mamadou Sarr on loan at Strasbourg, France
  3. Kendry Paez on loan at Strasbourg, France
  4. Nicolas Jackson on loan at Bayern Munich, Germany
  5. Aaron Anselmino on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Germany
  6. David Datro Fofana on loan at Fatih Karagumruk, Turkey
