Not everyone in Hollywood is decking the halls this holiday season.
Some stars are more Grinch than Santa, and they’re not shy about it.
Miley Cyrus has openly admitted to feeling lonely even in a house full of friends and family, channeling her heartbreak into her 2019 My Sad Christmas Song.
Lady Gaga, meanwhile, once bit the head off a Santa plush toy onstage to vent her holiday frustration.
Even Jennifer Aniston and Colin Firth have made it known their distaste for the season, proving that not every A-lister is feeling festive.
From heartbroken divas to holiday rebels, these Hollywood Grinches prove Christmas isn’t always merry.

Miley Cyrus
The Prisoner singer has been brutally honest about her struggles during Christmas.
In 2019, she released My Sad Christmas Song to share her feelings of loneliness.
‘A sad Christmas song I wrote a few years back right before the holidays,’ Cyrus wrote on X (formerly Twitter). ‘Was feeling like s*** cause I couldn’t be with the one I loved.
‘Even with a house full of family and friends I still felt alone. In ways that still feels relevant and someone reading this right now could possibly relate!’
She added, ‘If you feel lonely this season just know YOU ARE COMPLETELY MADE OF MAGIC! You are as special as a snowflake, beautifully unique and I hope inside your soul feels light, hope, peace, and joy knowing how singularly amazing YOU are! Love always wins!’
Cyrus’ disdain for the holidays even extends to decor.
In 2020, she announced plans for a ‘goth Christmas’ with an all-black tree, rosaries, upside-down crosses, and ‘medieval kinda vibes.’
She joked that holiday gatherings with her family often ended in ‘fistfights, and usually with each one of us removing ourselves and slamming the door in some way and a lot of apology texts.’

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga’s relationship with Christmas has been equally chaotic.
The Grammy winner once bit the head off a Santa plush toy during a 2010 London concert, decapitating it with her shoe.
‘I hate the holidays. I’m alone and miserable you f–king stuffed little toy,’ she snarled on stage.
Despite her Grinch-like antics, Gaga found some joy with her 2009 release Christmas Tree.
Jennifer Aniston
Even the ever-smiling Jennifer Aniston has a complicated past with Christmas.
‘When I was a kid, they used to make me belly dance on Christmas Eve,’ she told EW in 2016.

Why do you think so many celebrities dread Christmas while others see it as a time of joy and togetherness?

‘My dad’s whole side of the family is Greek, so I would dress up as a little Greek girl and then on Christmas, after taking belly-dancing classes, I would do that,’ Aniston once admitted

‘It had nothing to do with Christmas, even. It was just, “Let’s humiliate Jen on Christmas.”’
Marion Cotillard
The Inception actress isn’t feeling the Christmas spirit either.
She once admitted, ‘That was from a very young age. I remember fighting with my mum because I didn’t want to get presents. … She was very mad at me because she couldn’t stand having me amongst the kids not having a present.
‘And I was like, “I’m fine, I don’t need anything, I don’t want it.”‘

Ozzy Osbourne
The late Black Sabbath frontman didn’t mince words about holiday consumerism.
‘I have to unravel all these f–king presents. What a f–king waste of paper,’ he told Express in 2009.
‘I f****** hate Christmas. I f****** hate it. Everything stops. When I used to drink, it was a good excuse to get f***** Now, I just hate it.’
Rod Stewart
He might have a Christmas album, but Stewart’s holiday spirit is short-lived.
His wife Penny Lancaster once explained, ‘Rod doesn’t love Christmas. He can’t wait till the decorations are down and his house is back to normal.’

Colin Firth
Even the star of Love, Actually and Mamma Mia! isn’t immune to seasonal Scrooge-ness.
‘At this time of year, I am careful not to switch on the radio because those novelty jingles make me homicidal and plunge me into the heart of Scrooge territory,’ Firth told the Daily Mail in 2009.
‘I think Christmas turns us all into Scrooge. Everyone is trying to throw happy stuff at you, and that’s when I come over all humbug.’
Larry David
The Curb Your Enthusiasm star is perhaps the ultimate anti-holiday hero.
‘I’m a creature of habit and can’t tolerate anything that throws me off my normal routine,’ David wrote in a 2021 essay titled A Very Larry David Christmas. ‘That’s why I detest all holidays, but none as much as Christmas.
‘There’s the loathsome music. The movies with their ridiculous, treacly sentiments. The presents—thinking about them, shopping for them (never without resentment), and the attendant pile of garbage that accumulates from opening them, an environmental disaster simultaneously taking place in living rooms across the country.’

Diego Luna
The Star Wars and Narcos actor also has no time for holiday hoopla.
‘I hate the wave of consumerism and the feeling that you have to do things that you normally don’t have to do at any other time of the year,’ Luna told Celestrellas in 2010.
He added that his father shared the same distaste, often ‘crashing someone else’s Christmas dinner’ and enduring awkward gifts like VHS tapes of cheesy films.
Christoph Waltz
The Inglourious Basterds actor wants nothing to do with Christmas.
‘No Christmas. That’s my biggest wish, no Christmas. I’m against it. I’m against it even in milder forms, but at Christmas, it turns into mass hysteria,’ Waltz said in a 2014 interview.

The Oasis rocker has a famously foul opinion of the festive season.
‘I f****** hate it with a passion,’ Gallagher told Far Out Magazine in 2021.
He called his attempt to embrace the 1998 holiday-advert Oasis track ‘s***’ thanks to ‘too much food, too much ‘We Are the World,’ the jumpers, the TV presenters, the s*** adverts, the f****** weather.’
Marilyn Manson
And of course, Marilyn Manson keeps it dark, even for the holidays.
‘I hate Christmas,’ he told the Associated Press in 2016.
‘Some of my friends celebrate Chanukah, which seems to me to be more conventional and a better holiday because you get more gifts.’
He added, ‘I think … I’ve spent every Christmas without a Christmas tree.’
