Labour U-turn on stupid, vindictive farm tax was inevitable

Plough forward

FOR months, ministers defended the farm tax in the face of widespread public fury – just as they’d once insisted there would be no backing down on winter fuel payments.

Yesterday came the inevitable U-turn.

London, UK. 26th Nov, 2025. On Budget Day in Westminster a protest by farmers against inheritance tax policies was limited by the police, who banned tractors from driving down Whitehall. Protestors parked their tractors around Trafalgar Square and ne

Picking on farmers was always a stupid and vindictive idea.

In a particularly cruel way, the policy attacked the very heart of why farmers work punishingly long days to put food on our tables — so they can pass their farms on to future generations.

Worse, for all the pain and 14 months of uncertainty, the inheritance tax raid wasn’t even going to raise much money. Barely more than £100million.

But the decision to increase the value threshold of farms to £2.5million is a welcome success for the campaign led by Sun columnist Jeremy Clarkson.

Now what’s needed are MORE U-turns.

For starters, the endless attacks on fun — from taxes on betting to milk shakes — should be halted.

Boozers and High Street shops are screaming out for the business rate hike to be abandoned.

Hard-working families battered by the cost of living crisis need some respite from the highest tax burden ever.

And it can all be paid for by Sir Keir reversing on his most damaging U-turn of them all: the decision to abandon cuts to the country’s monstrous benefits bill for the jobless.

As Tory leader Kemi Badenoch says in today’s Sun, we need to get Britain working again.

Whose side are YOU on PM – the strivers, or the skivers?

Salute to hero

THE courage shown by a police undercover agent to nail three Islamic terrorists bent on slaughtering British Jews was extraordinary.

Hate-filled Walid Saadaoui and Amar Hussein wanted to carry out an atrocity bigger than that seen on Bondi Beach.

Without the selfless actions of a Greater Manchester Police operative – referred to in court only as “Farouk” – they would have succeeded.

Befriending the Islamic State sleeper agents online — and then in person — he placed himself in mortal danger to save countless lives.

Cops get a lot of flak. In the case of Farouk, we should salute his immense bravery.
