THE real reason that Brian McFadden signed up for Strictly’s Christmas Special has been unveiled before his sparkling appearance on the show.
The Irish hunk who shot to fame in Westlife will soon be storming the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor for their annual Christmas special.
In the past, Brian, 45, turned down a spot on the main series, but this year he decided to take the plunge with the festive special.
Speaking to The Sun about deciding to sign up for the show, Brian said: “Well to be honest with you, I had thought about it in the past and I always said, no, it’s not for me.
“And this year my daughter Ruby, she’s obsessed with Strictly, she’s been watching it not just every week but she records it and watches it when she comes home from school. She’s only four.
“She knows everybody’s name and the dancers are doing.
“So it was just really strange that I got the phone call to do it this year.
“I was just, absolutely just for her, because she’s going to love it, especially on Christmas Day,” he said.
Brian went on: “It’s great, you get the Strictly experience without the weekly stress and dance-offs.
“That’s the best, isn’t it? What more can you ask for? It’s Squid Games without the bullets!”
Elsewhere in our chat, Brian opened up on being hesitant in the past.
“I’m still doing music and it’s a huge commitment,” he explained.
“So I think this is the perfect show for me to do because it’s just a one-off special and me and Michelle got to do all the dancing, put a lot of time into it, but I wouldn’t have been able to commit to do the full show because I’ve got so much touring and stuff to do.
“So this was just a perfect opportunity because everybody wants to be a part of it, it’s an institution, Strictly, and it’s a nice part of British history, so it’s nice to be able to say you’ve done it,” Brain added.
Revealing how his friends and family reacted when he told them, Brain explained how his mum was “very excited” to learn of the news.
“My two other daughters as well, Molly, Lily, very excited. I think everyone was just excited to see how I get on,” he added.
