Catherine Tyldesley has opened up about her ‘secret’ health condition and weighed in on weight-loss jabs in a candid interview.

The actress, 42, who plays the iconic Eva Price in Coronation Street, revealed that she has been juggling a condition after leaving the soap and joining the Strictly Come Dancing line-up in 2019.

Explaining how the high amount of workload impacted her health she said it spiked her hormones, causing a reaction that led to fluctuations in her weight to the point where she felt like ‘having a baby’ without having one.

‘Most of the time my hormones are fine, but after Strictly and doing the tour, they kind of went a bit cuckoo,’ she told The Sun.

‘My oestrogen can sometimes go a bit high. The hours that we work and everything. You’ve got to be as fit as a fiddle in our job.’

Catherine, who revealed she now knows better what her body needs and ‘respects it a lot more than I did then’, then got real while discussing the Corrie’s representation of weight-loss jabs.

As Corrie’s Bethany Platt (played by Lucy Fallon) is currently undertaking several weight-loss jabs, Catherine stressed out the importance of this topic to be covered in soaps.

‘That pressure [on image] just doesn’t seem to go away, especially with social media.

‘I am very much at that point in life where I train hard, I eat well, I treat myself occasionally, I work hard – this is where I’m supposed to be,’ she added.

The soap favourite quit Coronation Street back in 2018, and this year it was announced that Eva will return later on in the year after seven years away, with scenes airing the past October.

During her time on the serial, Eva famously had a relationship with Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward) but he had an affair with Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon).

As an act of revenge when she found out, Eva faked a pregnancy and spent Aidan’s savings on a pink Range Rover.

The pair later become engaged but Maria burst into the wedding to expose the truth about the fake pregnancy.

A short time later, Eva discovered that she was actually pregnant with Aidan’s baby but agreed to give the child to her half-sister Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor).

Speaking candidly about weight-loss jabs, she added: 'That pressure [on image] just doesn't seem to go away, especially with social media (pictured on Corrie in 2018)

Soon after that, Aidan took his own life in 2017, and Eva became attached to baby Susie and left the cobbles in the back of a taxi with her.

Catherine then starred in the short-lived sitcom Scarborough and played a leading role in Bonnie & Clyde: The Musical, but it was cancelled halfway through the tour amid poor ticket sales.

The soap star reunited with X Factor winner Shayne on The Good Ship Murder, which began airing its second series in January.

News of Catherine’s comeback comes shortly after she admitted she would ‘never say never’ to a return.

She told Prima magazine: ‘Coronation Street feels like forever ago, but I always look back with such great fondness

‘But if they approached me with an amazing storyline and the time was right, of course, I’d go back. So it’s always a case of never say never.’
