STRICTLY Come Dancing’s finale got off in spectacular style – though fans are convinced one star suffered a very close near-miss.

After a grand opening performance with all of the professional dancers, this year’s finalists – Amber Davies, George Clarke and Karen Carney – were put through their paces for the final time.

For the first round of dances, it was down to the judges to choose which routine the contestants had to re-perform.

And to some eagle-eyed viewers, it nearly spelled disaster for one couple.

Taking to the dancefloor as the second to compete, George and his partner Alexis Warr were tasked with dancing their Vienesse Waltz to Queen’s Somebody to Love.

However, just moments into the song starting, Alexis appeared to slightly slip during their first turn, with George catching her.

Thankfully, they were able to carry on with the moment largely unnoticed apart from some eagle-eyed fans who took to X (formerly Twitter) to comment on it.

“Oh, George, that was stumbly. What a shame – I’m wanting him to win. Alexis slipped early doors too. Ended OK,” wrote one fan.

Luckily, judges didn’t seen to notice, praising the pair for their otherwise stunning routine.

“I thought the most wonderful part of watching you dance is actually the ease in which you dance,” Motsi Mabuse told the pair.

“This is a very intensive competition. It is the final of Strictly Come Dancing, but you were so easy, and you look so natural moving toward the floor using your standing legs and the connection between you two.

“I was watching you before the dance, and I just see that this is a couple. You grow strong together, and I could see that through your dances. So well done for your first dance. Don’t cry!”

The others echoed the sentiment, with Craig Revel Horwood declaring George had “turned into quite the ballroom dancer”.

The pair were scored 39 out of 40 possible points – with Craig being the only judge withholding that perfect 10 paddle and giving a 9.
