Coronation Street star Rupert Hill looked unrecognisable as he announced his return to acting.

The soap star, 47, who played Jamie Baldwin on Corrie between 2004 and 2008, quit showbiz to run Manchester pubs such as Castle Hotel, Gulliver’s and the Eagle Inn, which he co-owns with his wife Jenny Platt.

But he has been making his return to acting as of late and most recently his short film Operation Magpie landed on YouTube

Rupert teamed up with fellow Corrie alum Julie Hesmondhalgh, best known for playing Hayley Cropper, for the film – which he starred in and co-directed.

Earlier this month Rupert also appeared on stage in Christmas show Tinsel at The Edge theatre in Manchester.

His other recent stage work has included The Fire Raisers at the Hope Mill Theatre in September and he also directed the tour of Mike Bartlett’s play COCK.

It comes after he stepped away from the spotlight to focus on a career as a pub landlord.

Announcing the opening of his Manchester bar on Instagram last year, he wrote: ‘Taking over #lloyds in Chorlton with @jbfotografick.

‘Opening this Thursday with a big refurb scheduled for September.

‘Going to create a beautiful drinking venue with an incredible live music and events space! More details coming soon.’

Rupert is already experienced in this area having taken on and renovated The Parlour in Manchester.

He previously told the Manchester Evening News: ‘From day one, we’ve found this shared passion for taking weary and underperforming pubs with bags of potential and breathing new life into them, bringing them back into the community, creating places that people love to be in.

‘It’s always felt like a worthwhile endeavour.’

After appearing in Coronation Street, Rupert decided he loved the city where the soap was filmed – Manchester – so much that he bought a home there.
