Rayner and Matilda Forbes Watson, of agency William Morris Endeavours visited publishing houses last week.

They showed an outline of the book – detailing how Rayner came from a background of poverty and via an unconventional route into politics – amid strict security.

The book will also tell Rayner’s side of her fall from grace after a Stamp Duty scandal revealed by The Sun – and will also record recent political events.

Sources said they planned to strike a deal and publish the memoir within four to five months, probably by using a ghostwriter.

RAYNER RETURN

Starmer says Rayner will return to Cabinet as he bids to appease left-wingers

And sources said the book could help Rayner position herself for a tilt at the Labour crown if PM Keir Starmer faces a challenge after the May local elections.

A source said: “The timing of this is potentially explosive and would show Angela as a gritty woman of the people – as opposed to the posh Starmer-ite wing of the Labour Party.

“It will not go down well with Sir Keir and could be a real case of Pulp Friction.”

Alice Skinner, the editorial director at The Bodley Head, the publisher that bought the memoir, said: “Her book will be unvarnished and upfront – you can expect her authenticity to shine through.”
