The positions will focus on specialist care and sales as part of the firm’s bid to serve domestic customers from UK towns and cities.

The total amount of jobs will be split between the two cities and run by the firm’s partner Concentrix.

It will add to more than the existing 830 Vodafone and Three customer specialists already based in Stoke and Glasgow.

It comes as around 9,000 construction, engineering and maintenance jobs will be created through a £11 billion investment to build their network.

Eventually, the figure will rise to 13,000 positions at the height of the building projects.

Figures show that the 5G Standalone  network will add £2.9 billion in mean economic output in Northern Ireland and also £6.4 billion in Yorkshire and the Humber.

Jon Shaw, Consumer Operations of VodafoneThree, said:   “We firmly believe in having care teams where our customers are, and that means having teams based across the UK.

“It’s an exciting time to join VodafoneThree as we build the UK’s best network and set new  standards for customer care in the industry.”

Lord Stockwood, Minister for Investment, said: “This is a major boost for our digital and  tech sector, which will not only create over 400 jobs in Sheffield and Belfast but open up new opportunities for local communities and put more money in people’s pockets.

“Our modern Industrial Strategy is all about unleashing the potential of our cities and regions, so it’s great to see VodafoneThree investing and creating opportunity in every part of the country.”
