They were 2-1 up at half-time and former goalkeeper Van der Sar thought the lead was safe, so took his dog out for a walk.

But by the time he returned United were 3-2 down thanks to two Bournemouth goals in six minutes.

Van der Sar reacted by tweeting: “Quickly walked the dog at half time and what happened ffs in Manchester?”

His trend of missing goals continued as the Red Devils equalised, with a follow up tweet reading: “Just got a cup of tea and what happened now?? 3-3.”

Van der Sar managed to see the last two goals as United retook the lead before the Cherries equalised for a final time.

The visitors almost won it late on as David Brooks was twice denied by Sanne Lammens, and the Dutchman was impressed by the United keeper.

He said: “Just sat down after celebrating our 4th goal (yes seen this one) and 4-4 already! Are we going to get a winner?

“Pfff 2 good saves at the end but disappointing result from the team to have another setback at home!”
