Donald Trump Drinks Maduro’s Milkshake – HotAir

The big squeeze on Nicolas Maduro’s rogue regime in Venezuela just transitioned into the boa constrictor phase.

President Donald Trump has been ramping up both American economic pressure and his own rhetoric against the thug to the south in our hemisphere for the last several months, and has ordered military movement of late to signal that more kinetic activities may be coming to dispatch Maduro from the oil-rich nation once and for all.

Sitting down with Politico’s Dasha Burns on Monday, when the subject of Maduro came up, Trump gave this very ominous warning – Maduro’s days are numbered.

The Gerald R. Ford carrier group, the most lethal carrier in the world, has recently parked off the coast of Venezuela. Right before Thanksgiving, the skies began to look a little different down there, especially with American F-18’s and a B-52 bomber flying around.

Little noticed before the seizure of the ghost Venezuelan oil tanker yesterday was a little rescue operation conducted by the United States. The opposition leader in Venezuela, Maria Corina Machado, had been in hiding since January to avoid being arrested by Maduro. She was spirited away and reappeared in Oslo a few hours ago. By removing her from harm’s way and being used as a possible hostage, operations against Maduro could be stepped up. And stepped up, they were.

Attorney General Pam Bondi released video footage of the daring mission conducted by the U.S. Military of flying over the deck of the Skipper, one of the largest oil tankers in the world. Helicopters dropped troops from fast lines, and within minutes, the tanker, and around 2 million barrels of sanctioned oil the Skipper contained, were ours. To borrow a phrase from the Oscar-winning Daniel Day-Lewis film There Will Be Blood, Trump drank Maduro’s milkshake.

Donald Trump was asked about it in a press gaggle at the White House.

Oklahoma Senator James Lankford explained why the ship was sanctioned, the attempts that were made to evade those sanctions, and why this was a righteous raid.

For the last 24 hours, Resistance media and elected Democrats went on the attack…to defend Maduro, Venezuela, Cuba, and the oil. If Trump is on the other side of the equation, Democrats take the opposite view, no matter who and what those bedfellows resemble.

The administration has received accusations of engaging in piracy, theft, and sleepwalking the United States into war, all the while missing a few salient points, as Drew Holden of American Compass points out.

That’s right. The ship in question, quite literally flying a false flag and running its ownership through multiple international shell corporations to evade sanctions, was nevertheless a ship that had been running illegal oil for both Venezuela and Iran to prop up regimes that either engage in terrorism themselves, like Hezbollah, or support terrorism, like Cuba.

And, by the way, it was the Biden Regency that first sanctioned this ship in 2022, but like everything else with the collection of incompetents running the government for four years, they never did anything about it. Trump did.

Senate Intel ranking member Mark Warner of Virginia, who continues to demonstrate he’s really not that intelligent, walked right into the trap because of his instinct to criticize the seizure simply because Trump did it.

That cuts both ways, doesn’t it? Of course, the converse to Warner’s argument is that the military should have and could have just JDAM’ed the tanker and burned it all up to be consistent.

The Hill compiled a list of instant reactions by Democrats, most of them predictable, several laughable.

Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) echoed Paul’s worries, telling NewsNation that while he does not know the details of the incident, he is “gravely concerned that [Trump] is sleepwalking us into a war with Venezuela.”

Later in the piece, answering the question that literally no one in America is asking, which is ‘What does Mazie Hirono think about this?’, the Hawaii Senator mumbled this quote.

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) told Brandt on Wednesday that she is concerned regarding all of the administration’s actions toward Venezuela, saying she is “of course” worried about the prospect of war.

“There are a lot of legal issues involved,” Hirono said.

Ah, legal issues, she says. Like this one reported on by Fox News

Attorney General Pam Bondi said a joint operation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations and the United States Coast Guard, with support from the Department of War, executed a seizure warrant for a crude oil tanker that was allegedly being used to transport sanctioned oil from Venezuela and Iran.

They got a warrant. A judge signed the warrant. The operation began. So much for Trump the pirate, Trump the authoritarian, Trump the dictator. They treated this as a violation of U.S. law, which the Biden sanction outlines, and used the military as the world’s best S.W.A.T. team and acted.

Karoline Leavitt spiked the ball from the White House briefing room on Thursday.

Now, if that weren’t enough to stem the inanity from the left about how this is yet another example of Trump flying off the rails, there is this bit of precedence going back to President George Herbert Walker Bush in 1990

As of 6 December 1990, U.S. and coalition Navy ships had conducted 4,605 intercepts, 569 boardings and 22 diversions due to prohibited cargo. By 15 January 1991 the numbers were 6,913 intercepts, 823 boardings, and 36 diversions. The most contentious boarding was the Iraqi-flagged freighter IBN KHALDOON, the so-called “Peace Ship,” which was carrying international peace activists as well as prohibited cargo, on 26 December. The boarding team fired warning shots in the air and used a smoke and noise grenade to control the unruly crowd. After being diverted and prohibited cargo offloaded, IBN KHALDOON proceeded to Iraq arriving just in time for the peace activists to be used a “human shields” by Saddam Hussein.

And that action didn’t have a warrant, either.

As Byron York said on Fox yesterday afternoon, this is a positive development. If you’re trying to cut the head off the snake in our hemisphere, Nicolas Maduro, this is what you want to do.

Or, if you’re a Democrat and get your news and opinions from morons, you might have this hot take from The View committed to memory already.

Yes, Joy Behar thinks this is a ‘Wag The Dog’ moment, diverting attention from the Epstein files, that, *checks notes*, Trump’s Department of Justice just got clearance from a district court judge to release.

The stupid – sometimes, it burns brighter in some people more than others. Joy Behar is a virtual supernova.

Two million barrels of Venezuelan sanctioned crude at $51 bucks a barrel? Sounds like a hundred million reasons to be happy, not just because it puts the bite on Maduro, but it starves Cuba, another nuisance in our neighborhood, of oil they thought they were going to get. This raid was a literal win-win, and should be celebrated as another Trump accomplishment.
