Erling Haaland has brilliant response when asked about going on podcast with Man Utd hardman Roy Keane

ERLING HAALAND says he would have to take his dad Alfie along if he ever goes on a podcast with Roy Keane.

Manchester City’s forward had a long sit down with Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer earlier this month for The Rest is Football.

That prompted Jamie Carragher – who runs The Overlap with Gary Neville – to suggest he should also have a chat with them.

But that one often features former Manchester United skipper Keane – who famously had a long-running feud with Haaland Snr during their playing days.

The ex-Republic of Ireland international never forgot that Alfie had accused him of feigning injury in a match at Elland Road in 1997.

So four years later – when the Norwegian was playing for City – he took his revenge with a deliberate knee high tackle that earned him a red card.

Haaland Snr never properly recovered and after a couple of failed comeback attempts he was forced to hang up his boots.

Keane later admitted in his autobiography he had done it on purpose to get his own back – so the bad blood has always been there.

And when Carragher asked City’s goal-scoring sensation if he fancied appearing on his podcast he was not convinced.

He said: “Jamie Carragher now – and Roy Keane? I think I’ll need to bring my father.”

Carragher blasted Liverpool’s Mo Salah for the interview he gave after the draw at Leeds last weekend.

Asked if it is more worrying facing Real Madrid’s Antonio Rudiger or being interviewed by Carragher, Haaland had another amusing response.

He said: “I think Carragher – he is such a loose cannon now. I’m getting nervous because I’m seeing him in the studio.”

Haaland’s penalty in the Bernabeu – which gave City a famous win – was his 55th in the competition but his first ever in the iconic stadium.

He revealed that Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo – the top scorer in the history of the competition – is an inspiration for him as he aims to make the most of his career.

The £51.4million ace told TNT Sports: “Of course I think for every player on this planet Cristiano and Lionel Messi are an example.

“They show what you should do to perform at the highest level for 15 years in the greatest league so they are both inspirational.

“Cristiano maybe let us in a bit more on what he has been doing so he is definitely an inspiration, look at how he takes care of his body.

“How old is he now? 40? It’s incredible for him to be playing so all respect to him for being able to do that. It’s not easy.”

Before slotting his spot-kick past Thibaut Courtois for what proved to be the winner, he had to ignore some mind games from his old pal Jude Bellingham.

The pair remain friends after a couple of years together at Borussia Dortmund and the England ace was trying to tell his keeper which way to dive.

Haaland added: “I didn’t see that, maybe I will on my phone later but Jude is also such a good guy.

“I miss him a lot. I miss playing with him. We had some great memories playing together in Dortmund.”

After his goal he celebrated by walking in front of the Madrid fans, closing his eyes and moving his head from side to side.

Asked to explain what he was doing, he smiled: “I don’t plan any celebration because it will probably mean the biggest streak without scoring.

“But the first thing is from Achilles when I just walk – pretending like it’s nothing. I don’t know if you’ve seen Achilles in the movie?

“And the other thing with my head it’s from a meme on Instagram. It’s one I really like.”

Haaland gave the interview to Shearer earlier this month after beating his record to become the fastest player ever to 100 Prem goals.

And if he stays at City for the length of his contract, he is confident there will be many more milestones he can reach.

He said: “I don’t like to think too much about records. It’s nice to hear that I’ve broken them – like with the Prem one.

“But I have a long contract at City, I’m enjoying myself, playing good football, I’ve got good team-mates.

“So read a bit between the lines and you’ll have a little bit of my answer. But stay humble, relax and take it game by game.”
