He has won nine majors and climbed the rankings to top spot by scooping almost £2million in prize money.

But despite his lofty achievements and his ever-expanding bank account, the 18-year-old still gets given pocket money by his mum and dad.

Matchroom president and former PDC chairman Hearn sang Littler’s praises and highlighted his humility.

He told The Times: “They always say never work with children or animals, but watching Littler evolve, he’s a different beast to the one who stepped on that stage at 16. He’s got so much confidence.

“This kid can’t go for a pint with his mates, go to a restaurant without the world bugging him and that’s quite something to come to terms with, but his performance hasn’t been affected by that. He’s stayed grounded.

“He’s bought his mum and dad a five-bedroom house in the country, but last time I spoke to him he still gets 50 quid a week pocket money.”

Littler heads into this month’s World Darts Championship as the favourite, having reached the last two finals and triumphed at Alexandra Palace last year.

The Warrington thrower has had another brilliant year, winning the World Matchplay, World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts, Players Championship and the UK Open.

He has done so in style too, entertaining crowds with his unorthodox checkouts and high scoring.

Hearn added: “He’s got a sense of humour too. He checks out different things just to f*** people’s minds up, I’ve seen him have three darts at 50 and take out the bull first time.

“There’s a school of thought that takes you to the car park and you get bashed up for that because it’s called taking the piss, but he just thinks it’s funny.

“He specialises in the double-double finish, and he’s changing the way the game is played as more and more people copy him. The kid is getting better, more consistent and he’s going to break all records.”
