HEARTBROKEN Holly Hagan has opened up about her sister Darci’s final hours before the teenager passed away.
The Geordie Shore star, 33, paid tribute to Darci, who was just 19 at the time of her death in October.
The pregnant star, who recently revealed she was expecting her second child, has opened up about the horrific time that she went through with her family, shortly before Darci died.
Holly revealed how her sister had taken a crystal form of the party drug MDMA when she collapsed on a night out in Manchester.
The star revealed how she was woken in the night and had 130 missed calls from her family telling her to get to the hospital quickly as he sister was severely ill.
Holly then described the final hours of her beloved sister’s life, something that will be “forever etched” into her memory.
One moment which she’ll never forget was when the doctors revealed that Darci was brain dead.
Holly recalled how her mother completely broke down at the devastating news, while her stepfather, and Darci’s dad John, was left in shock.
After this, the reality star revealed they were taken to see the teenager for the first time, a sight that was truly awful.
“To see my sister, just 19, lying in that same ward was absolutely horrendous,” the heartbroken sister told the Daily Mail.
“I opened the curtain, and I have never seen anything like that in my life. I hope no parent or sibling ever has to see anything like that.
“She had tubes in her nose, in her mouth, she had bruises everywhere from where they had cannulas wherever they could put a cannula, she had tubes, needles in her neck, she had blood pouring out of her nose, which they were continuously cleaning, she had blood pouring from her mouth… they actually taped down her eyes for us because her eyes were – she looked dead. It was not a nice sight.
“There were machines covering the entire room, one of them helping her breathe, one of them on her heart, one of them on her kidneys, just trying their absolute best with all of this technology to keep her alive.”
After Darci underwent a brain scan, they were given the news that no family would ever want to hear, that their daughter and sister had gone.
Revealing that terrible time, Holly said: “We sat in the room, me, my mam, my stepdad, the neurologist, and two nurses, and he said that basically, the MDMA had heated her body so much that it caused her muscles to spasm, and it released sodium, potassium, and it basically poisoned her.
“With her body heating up so much, her brain was swelling tremendously, but they didn’t know how much until they did the scan.
“They said that the swelling was very extreme and they presumed there would be no signs of life when they did the tests.”
Continuing an emotional Holly said: “This will sound awful, but in a way, I can’t say glad, but it was a better option than there being some signs of life and for her to come out of that in a way that wouldn’t have been her, and she wouldn’t have any quality of life.
“That would have been so unbelievably difficult for everyone.
“It being so final, there was nothing else anybody could do, it was closure.
“She was 100 per cent braindead. Sometimes I can say things too bluntly and it can come across in a weird way but unless you have experienced it, you have no idea how you’re going to react or feel. She died at 16:23.”
SAYING GOODBYE
Last month, Holly revealed she had said goodbye to her sister at her funeral.
Posting on social media, she wrote: “My sister, my forever friend. His auntie, his greatest gift. Now our guardian angel.”
She also shared a photo of the order of service for Darci’s funeral and said: “I hope we did you proud today baby girl. We all miss and love you so much.”
TRAGIC DEATH
In October, a devastated Holly confirmed Darci’s death.
In an emotional statement, the reality star wrote: “It is with immeasurable grief and sadness that our baby girl, my baby sister Darci Rose passed away peacefully holding my hand surrounded by family and her best friends.
“She was never in any pain.
“The last four days have been something I hope no family ever has to go through.
“We are traumatised in every sense of the word.
“One day we will share Darci’s story. But for now I please ask that you do respect our privacy and allow us to process what has happened.”
