A HAIR expert has revealed the one trick you should never do for healthy locks.
Abbey Yung, from the US, is a certified Trichologist and took to social media to warn against the popular trick people swear by to have ‘healthy hair‘.

Many people on social media talk about ‘hair training’ which refers to training your hair to go longer between washes, sometimes even going for a week without washing it.
They claim it makes your hair grow quickly and helps to regulate oil production.
But the hair expert dismissed the claims and had evidence to prove they were wrong.
In the clip, Abbey said: “Since taking my trichology course… I haven’t been able to look at scalp health the same way again.”
She showed images of her hair when she was going days without washing it, and it looked dull, flat, and oily.
“You just cannot convince me that the before is the more optimal environment for healthy hair growth than the after,” she added.
She then showed what hair looked like now she was washing it almost daily and the results were incredible.
Her hair had much more volume, was shinier and had grown in length.
Abbey added: “And while proper cleansing isn’t the only reason my hair has grown long and healthy (my repair-focused routine has been crucial), it just shows that washing often will not only NOT prevent your hair from growing like so many people suggest, but it will help your hair thrive!”
Abbey also swore by Head & Shoulders for troubled scalps as it helps clear the scalp properly and prevents fungus on the scalp.
The clip went viral on her TikTok account @abbeyyung with over 7.8 million views and 257k likes.
Many took to the comments thanking Abbey for sharing her haircare tips.
One person wrote: “I tried. My oily hair and dandruff said no ma’am. Most I can do is 2 days! Then it looks like the picture you shared. It definitely isn’t for everyone.”
Another commented: “I can’t believe beauty YouTubers really had us all convinced that a dirty scalp caked in dry shampoo was healthier than a clean scalp.”
“I wash my hair every day and it’s so healthy and grows super quick!” penned a third.
Scalp Care Tips For Summer
Dry, brittle hair, sunburnt scalps, and dull, dehydrated skin are common after summer holidays, yet entirely preventable. Just like your skin, your hair and scalp deserve care before, during, and after sun exposure. Here’s how to keep them healthy and radiant all summer long.
Why Protect Your Hair & Scalp?
UV rays weaken hair fibres, damage the scalp, and can even accelerate hair loss if you’re already experiencing thinning. Salt water, chlorine, and heat strip away moisture, leaving hair fragile and prone to breakage.
Pre-Holiday: Strengthen & Prep
Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp. In the weeks before your trip, a non-invasive scalp treatment nourishes follicles, calms irritation, and builds resilience. Papilla by Kim Lim London, offers a relaxing therapy to summer-proof your hair.
On Holiday: Shield & Soothe
Be kind to your hair and scalp: avoid tight hairstyles, harsh brushing, and heat styling. Always rinse with fresh water after swimming to remove salt and chlorine. Stay hydrated, and protect with lightweight, moisturising serums to combat UV and environmental stress. When sun exposure is unavoidable, shield your scalp with a loose-fitting hat or scarf.
Post-Holiday: Repair & Revive
After your trip, soothe sun-stressed hair and scalp to prevent further damage. A scalp treatment can rebalance moisture, repair weakened follicles, and reverse UV and environmental effects, supporting healthy, strong regrowth, all without downtime.
Meanwhile, a fourth said: “I hate how people always try to gaslight me into hair training. I have an oily scalp, and since following your tips my hair looks much better!”
“Preach! Mine is so much better when I wash it several times a week. Washing has never caused me issues, but oil and build-up have,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “Such a great tip.”
