M11 closed in one direction after multiple-vehicle crash sparking severe delays near major UK airport

A MAJOR motorway has ground to a halt after a serious three-vehicle collision sparked lengthy delays near a busy airport.

The M11 in Essex is currently closed northbound between J6 (M25) and J7 (Harlow) as emergency crews work to clear the scene.

Essex Police and National Highways officers raced to respond after the horror smash this morning.

Three vehicles, two cars and a van, were reportedly involved in the collision, it remains unclear if anyone was seriously injured.

A stretch of the motorway was closed in the wake of the crash with drivers warned to expect long delays.

A traffic management system has been put in place in a bid to reduce the building queues.

There are currently delays of up to half an hour on the major motorway with long traffic jams already developing.

National Highways is urging motorists to check ahead and plan their journey accordingly.

The agency said: “”The M11 in Essex is closed southbound, between J7 (Harlow) and J6 (for the M25) following a multiple collision which was reported at 10:20am.

“Two cars and a van are involved in the collision, with the carriageway closed to allow the emergency services to work safely at the scene.

“National Highways traffic officers are also on scene providing assistance with traffic management.”
