A CITY high-flier is suing his architect and builder for £3.5million over claims his newly built home wrecked his marriage.
Rob Burdett, 58, says he and his wife, Patricia, 60, split after 20 years of marriage over the grand design.
They have now joined forces to sue the architect and builders for ruining their marriage.
In legal papers, the estranged couple claim the botched build created “serious inconvenience, discomfort and distress”.
Terry Pawson Architects and builder GPF Lewis began work on the house in Wimbledon, South West London, in 2014.
The work should have been completed by July 2015 but it was delayed after water leaked into the basement and garage, it is claimed.
The Burdett’s finally moved in April 2016 but say the work was so shoddy it was uninhabitable and they moved out within weeks.
They returned in June 2016 but water continued to leak into the house.
They now want to demolish a detached two-bedroom house and replace it with a new split level five bedroom property complete with swimming pool in the lower basement.
According to documents submitted to London’s High Court, the couple say they were forced to sell it for £3.1million — £4million less than they had hoped.
