‘The hottest royal you’ve never heard of’ is quietly following in Prince William’s footsteps…and might even take the crown for Britain’s most eligible bachelor

The ‘hottest royal you’ve never heard of’ quietly celebrated his 29th birthday earlier this month, with Alexander Charles Ogilvy set to step into the spotlight next year.

The Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden reported that Alexander, who is 60th in line to the throne, might ride in next year’s Trooping the Colour parade after he graduated from the Royal Military Academy of Sandhurst this August.

Alexander, who has signed up to the prestigious Household Cavalry, set hearts aflutter when he was pictured at his passing-out parade at the Berkshire school.

The dashing royal, who has been commissioned into the Blues and Royals, appeared solemn as he took part in the ceremony that led to royal fans anointing Alexander ‘Britain’s most eligible bachelor’.

It’s certainly a title fitting for the grandson of Queen Elizabeth’s beloved cousin, Princess Alexandra.

Not only is the royal reportedly single, but Alexander also has model good looks with impressive academic credentials to boot.

He’s also got a sense of humour, as Mr Eden recalled Alexander’s quip when asked to pick three words that best described him.

‘Fraudulent, insecure, man,’ he jokingly replied. He later said one of his favourite hobbies outside work was ‘practicing a British accent’.

Born in Edinburgh in 1996, Alexander is the grandson of Queen Elizabeth’s cousin – Princess Alexandra, and the son of James Ogilvy and wife Julia.

Thus far, he has enjoyed a low-key life despite his royal status and prefers to stay out of the social media spotlight by keeping his Instagram account private.

Despite that, Alexander caused a stir on social media when videos of him arriving for the late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022 went viral on TikTok.

While Alexander rarely posts about himself, his older sister, socialite and historian Flora Vesterberg routinely documents their outings and special memories together – including when she marked Alexander’s 29th birthday on November 12 with a sweet photo of the pair.

Alexander was dapper as he posed with Flora on her wedding day in 2021, as the caption read: ‘Wishing my lovely brother Alexander a happy birthday tomorrow. Very proud of our British Army Officer (in the Blues and Royals cavalry regiment). It’s been an extraordinary year for you.’

When he enrolled at Sandhurst last September, Flora said the family is ‘full of admiration’ for Alexander while describing him as ‘forever thoughtful and inspiring’.

He is also an ‘academic high-flyer’, Mr Eden reported.

Before university, Alexander was head boy at Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh, which costs £43,000 per year to attend, and achieved A*s and As.

After graduating, Alexander reportedly took a gap year, coaching rugby and mentoring students in Indigenous education, at Scots College in Sydney, Australia.

He has a double major in Computer Science and Economics from Ivy League Brown University, and Alexander put his degree to good use when he worked for a reputable digital identity verification company in New York.

During his time at Brown, Alexander began dating Michaela Kennedy-Cuomo, the daughter of former New York City mayor Andrew Cuomo and Kerry Kennedy – whose father is Robert F Kennedy.

The loved-up pair were pictured together on the red carpet at a Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Foundation event in December 2017.

However, shortly after a year, the couple sadly parted ways.

Following their breakup, Alexander was romantically linked to society girl Isabella Charlotta Poppius – but he is currently believed to be single.

His 88-year-old grandmother, Princess Alexandra, is cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth and even served as one of eight of her bridesmaids at her fairytale 1947 wedding to Prince Philip.

The youngest granddaughter of King George V and Queen Mary, she is believed to have spent much of her childhood with the young Elizabeth and her sister, the late Princess Margaret.

Indicative of their close relationship, in 2016, Alexandra revealed how when the late Queen was a young child – then a Princess – she would give her hand-me-down outfits when she was unable to buy clothes due to rationing.

During a BBC documentary titled Elizabeth At 90 – A Family Tribute, she said: ‘Because of the clothing coupons, it was quite difficult to get hold of clothes.

‘So they were very kind to me, my cousins – I think it was Princess Elizabeth mainly – they let me have one or two of their dresses.’

At the late Monarch’s state funeral in September 2022, Alexandra, who is 39th in line to the throne, was spotted in attendance, alongside her grandson, while the pair were also among the 30 guests who paid their respects to the late Prince Philip at his memorial service in April 2021.
