It was an iconic piece of football commentary that is still famous to this day and it was the start of what would prove the birth of a footballing legend.
At the tender age of just 16, Rooney was handed his Everton debut in the Premier League against Arsenal and the rest is history.
That moment was the start of what would prove to be an incredible career for a man who would go on and become an legendary figure for both Manchester United and England.
His introduction to the senior game was something from a fairy tale as he took down the ball, skipped away from his man before firing a sensational effort, via the crossbar, beyond David Seaman.
Football was a different game back then with the game now dominated by stats and analytics.

Speaking on the Wayne Rooney Show, he explained: “Gospel truth. I went to McDonalds.
“I got a chicken burger and chips.
“But I didn’t have the Coke, because I would have got a stitch.”
Rooney’s major breakthrough and impact grabbed the attention of Manchester United who shelled out to land his services.
After spending the bulk of his playing career at OId Trafford, he returned to Everton for a second stint before heading to the MLS with DC United.

During his time in the US, he also revealed TWO junk food items he would have shipped over as he couldn’t get the snacks.
He added: “Them noodles, when I lived in America, I couldn’t get them, and I shipped them over. Them and Discos (crisps).
“Koka noodles – get a bag, put the kettle in, powder in, leave for five minutes, or you can do them in the pan.”
