LOCALS have been left furious after a mountain of rubbish “the size of eight semi-detached houses” was dumped at a UK beauty spot.
The disgusting mound was discovered in a yard just off a country road in Wadborough, Worcestershire.
It seemingly appeared overnight just two miles away from a National Trust property.
It marks the second time a massive pile of discarded litter has been dumped in the countryside in a single month.
The Wadborough waste pile measures in at a staggering 100m (328ft) long.
Residents living nearby only spotted the giant pile of rubbish after it grew so tall it could be seen over the trees surrounding the yard.
The grim discovery has been measured at a towering 30ft high.
One villager said: “It’s bigger than a house. It’s like eight semis. There are tonnes and tonnes of waste.
“My concern is that it is contaminating the brook.”
Another said: “No one really knows who owns the land or what goes on there but the rubbish mountain is so big you can’t miss it.
“It’s bigger than the trees around it. It’s a relief the authorities are involved but I just hope it gets cleared soon.”
The Environment Agency has launched a probe into the illegal dump – which sits just eight miles from Worcester.
A spokesperson for the agency said: “We are currently investigating the illegal deposit of waste at the junction of Crabbe Lane and Rebecca Road near Wadborough in Worcestershire.
“As a live investigation, we are unable to comment further regarding this site.
“We were not involved in the sale of the land, however we have provided advice and guidance to the landowner on the steps they must now take to remove the waste from the land.
“We take waste crime seriously and encourage members of the public to report suspicious activity to our incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60.”
The probe comes after a 39-year-old man was arrested as part of an investigation into Britain’s biggest fly-tip earlier this month.
The 500ft-long 20ft-high pile of litter was abandoned illegally in a field near Kidlington in Oxfordshire.
It is believed the waste was dumped in one go and it was described by an MP as “threatening an environmental disaster.”
Some anglers discovered the pile of plastic, foam and wood just off the A34 near Kidlington when they went to fish in the nearby river.
The illegal tip was even mentioned in Parliament with Calum Miller, Liberal Democrat MP for Bicester and Woodstock, raising the issue.
He said “criminal gangs” are dumping waste on this scale across the country.
