A WOMAN has revealed how she gave her home a festive makeover using nothing but affordable buys from B&Q and other popular retailers.
Kirsten McIntosh took to TikTok to show off the gorgeous garland she made for her stairs, giving social media users true inspiration for Christmas holiday decor.

Sharing a step-by-step tutorial on her page, Kirsten first listed the handful of items used for the project, which included 240 warm LED lights, 9ft Corbier Christmas Garland from B&Q, as well as some cute red velvet bows for decoration.
Although the DIYer has since revealed B&Q has run out of the £10 Christmas garland, you can find similar products on Amazon, Tesco and Argos for a bargain price.
Kirsten said in the video: ”Started from the bottom of the stairs and worked my way up wrapping the lights around the bannister, then put along the bottom of the stairs as I had spare.”
Once the fairy lights have been successfully attached, it’s time to unravel the garland and fluff it up.
Similarly to the lights, Kirsten (@kirstennmc) also started wrapping the garland around the bannister from the bottom, slowly working her way up to the top.
If the staircase is longer, you may need to get two garlands instead of one – as at first, Kirsten could only wrap just half of the stairs.
She said: ”It took ages to make it look good and get rid of all the gaps, but I persevered.”
Last but certainly not least – time to attach the bows or whatever other decor and ornaments you have in mind.
Sharing the epic festive makeover, the TikToker wrote in the caption: ”This turned out so cute and cosy but was a lot of effort, not going to lie.”
Uploaded just two days ago, the clip has taken the internet by storm, winning the DIYer close to 110k views.
One fan of the staircase glow-up said: ”Oh see why didn’t I think to put the lights on underneath?!
”I always put my lights on at the end, I like this better now I see it!”
”I’m so glad I had seen someone else do it with the lights first or I would never have thought to do it like that either! I’m sure yours looks fab as well,” Kirsten replied.
Is it too early for Christmas?
Some say it’s never too early for Christmas, and there are many reasons why.
For example, decorating your home can improve your mood by release dopamine, the feel-good hormone in your brain.
If you’re an early-bird shopper, shops stocking Christmas items may help you prepare, and cut the cost across several months.
You can also look out for bargains across several shopping events – for example, end of summer sale’s or Black Friday.
One of the best things about the festive season is eating lots of delicious seasonal meals and treats – enjoying your favourite beverages and tipples.
”I love this,” a second chimed in.
”Omg, this is so cute,” a third couldn’t get over the results.
