MEL C has confirmed the Spice Girls are in talks to reunite for their 30th anniversary as Victoria Beckham sparked fresh hope she’ll join them.
She previously vowed not to return to the stage but shared a video that went viral yesterday in which she sang their Christmas hit Viva Forever.
It came as Mel C appeared on Good Morning America to promote her upcoming ninth album, Sweat, and the conversation turned to the possibility of the iconic pop group getting back together.
Crossing her fingers, she told viewers: “I remain optimistic. It’s our thirtieth anniversary next year.”
Reflecting on their last tour, she added: “We toured in 2019, we did a few stadium shows in the UK and it was incredible.
“We’re just so proud of the legacy that we have and we have fans now from new generations are just loving the Spice Girls so I would like to get back on stage with the girls.”
Mel C confirmed discussions are underway, saying: “We’re talking and we’re seeing what opportunities are out there.
“The thing that stops us is we feel so precious about it, we want to make sure it’s the right thing and agree on the right thing.”
The reunion hopes follow a surge of fan excitement around her bandmate Victoria Beckham.
Yesterday, fans begged Posh to release an acoustic duet of the Spice Girls hit Viva Forever with her 20-year-old son, Cruz.
Posh Spice, 51, showcased her vocal talents for the first time in years as Cruz accompanied her on guitar.
Fans flooded social media with praise, writing: “This is so beautiful.
“Acoustic Christmas No.1 right there!”
“You guys need to get a band together!” another said.
Victoria has not performed with the Spice Girls since their appearance at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games and opted out of the group’s 2019 reunion tour.
But she continues to receive royalties from their hit records.
Last month, she was supported by bandmates Geri Halliwell-Horner, Melanie C and Emma Bunton at the premiere of her Netflix documentary.
All five Spice Girls also reunited at Victoria’s 50th birthday celebration last year, where they performed their hit Stop in a moment captured on camera by David Beckham.
