Just when you thought Christmas couldn’t get any more cheesy or nakedly commercial, along comes the Duchess of Sussex to remind us all what this time of year is REALLY about.
The Netflix trailer for her special festive edition of With Love, Meghan is here – and no cliché has been spared.
‘I love the holiday season,’ she gushes in that faux-smile voice-over of hers, skipping in her best cosy chic jeans-and-jumper look through a field of Christmas trees and choosing the one she likes.
‘It’s about finding time to connect with the people we love,’ she adds, leaning in for a kiss with Prince Harry who is spooning something out of a cereal bowl in the manner of a man who’s been playing Call of Duty in the basement for three days solid and hasn’t got a clue why his kitchen is covered in icing sugar, pine needles and minor celebrities.
No matter, our domestic goddess (Nigella should really sue) is in full flow. Nothing can stop her now.
‘It’s about embracing traditions… and making new ones,’ Meghan tells us breathily.
Cue shots of wreaths and cookies, plus cutaways of the Duchess and ‘friends’ laughing, gasping and veritably palpitating at their own fabulousness before pulling a cracker and whooping with merriment.
Verily, their enthusiasm is infectious – in the manner of a particularly virulent cold.
‘Being a hostess or a host – it’s about making people feel comfortable,’ says the woman whose ability to make people feel distinctly UNcomfortable is verging on the legendary.
‘It’s so pretty,’ muses one of her chums, tennis star Naomi Osaka, a little nervously, observing what appears to be a wreath made out of broccoli and chopped radish (don’t forget to put that one on your Christmas list, kids).
‘Yay!’ says our hostess, in the manner of someone unwrapping Primark when she was expecting Prada. ‘Let’s go craft!’

‘It’s pretty jolly here,’ she adds, more by way of instruction than any genuine fun, and the levity continues.
‘Let the festivities commence and embrace the special touches that bring you joy.’
Special touches like the lingering shot of three pots of As Ever jam (£27) at the end, lest anyone forget. Perfect for grandpa’s Christmas morning toast – not that Archie and Lilibet will see much of him this Christmas. Still, it’s the thought that counts.
Some people have pointed out that it’s perhaps not exactly a coincidence that this trailer has been released on the same evening that the Prince and Princess of Wales are appearing at the Royal Variety Show at the Royal Albert Hall.
I can’t imagine what they are trying to imply.
And besides, when has Meghan EVER tried to steal her sister-in-law’s thunder?
