Sophie Trudeau admits being ‘disappointed and angry’ as she copes with ex-husband Justin’s romance with Katy Perry

Sophie Trudeau has candidly laid bare how she copes with Justin Trudeau‘s very public romance with Katy Perry.

The television host, 50, discussed her approach while speaking to Canadian businesswoman Arlene Dickinson on her podcast.

Sophie, who split from Justin, 53, in August 2023 after 18 years of marriage, addressed a wide range of topics, from motherhood to mental health.

She explained on the show, titled Arlene Is Alone: The Single Life, that being scrutinized in the public eye can present many ‘triggers’ but said that she has learned to ‘listen to the music, not the noise’.

Steering the conversation more pointedly to Justin’s new relationship with Katy, 41, Dickinson prompted: ‘I don’t know how you stay cool… I really admire it because I would probably not be that way.’

Sophie responded: ‘We’re human beings and stuff affects us. That’s normal.

‘How you react to stuff is your decision… The woman I want to become through this is my decision.

‘Does it mean that I don’t have emotions? That I don’t cry, scream, laugh? No. Especially that I’m a super tender heart.’

She continued: ‘But it’s my decision after that between the emotion and the reaction. I let myself feel.

‘I’ll let myself be disappointed by someone. I’ll let myself be angry, be sad. I know for a fact how important it is as a mental health advocate to feel those emotions.’

Sophie admitted that people must take a step back from their immediate reactive state or will otherwise ‘suffer the consequences’.

‘Your stress levels are going to be up the roof. You’re going to become more and more judgmental because that’s a loop as well,’ the mom added.

Elsewhere, she described how the former couple have learned to co-parent their two sons, Xavier, 18, and Hadrien, 11, as well as daughter, Ella-Grace, 16.

‘I’m definitely not a single mom. I have a partnership with a father who has such deep love and availability to his children,’ she shared.

Sophie later added: ‘We call each other up. We’ll text each other… We will really try to build cohesion, so that the kids feel that cohesion… We have separate lives, but we have one family life.’

Katy, who has a five-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, split from Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom earlier this year.

She was previously married to comedian Russell Brand from 2010 until 2012.

Earlier this year, sources claimed that Justin and Katy were ‘in the very early stages’ of ‘exploring a romance’.

A source told the Daily Mail at the time: ‘Katy is very, very interested in him. She says he’s a real catch, a high-quality guy. She clearly likes him a lot. He likes her a lot.’

And, just this month, the Firework hitmaker confirmed their romance mid-concert as she shut down a marriage proposal from a fan.

The singer was surprised to find a fan holding a sign asking to marry her yet again -an offer she previously also turned down at her London show – and explained she’s no longer available.
