UK’s 50 best fish and chip shops revealed – so is YOUR local chippy on the list?

Fish and chips are a British staple, often considered the UK’s national dish.

While most Brits have their favourite local chippy, the common unspoken rule is usually that fish and chips taste the best when they’re served with a sea view.

But that may not actually be the case.

The 13th annual Fry Awards has announced the UK’s 50 best fish and chip takeaways.

And, surprisingly, just 14 of the locations are by the coast, with spots in Leeds, Essex and South East London making the cut.

The results follow months of judging, during which, takeaways, restaurants, and mobile units were secretly assessed by mystery diners on a range of aspects, including food quality, premises cleanliness, staff expertise, value for money, ease of ordering, and social media presence.

Only the operators with the highest scores earn an award. The pass mark this year for both the takeaway and restaurant categories was 96 per cent and above, although several were successful in gaining the full 100 per cent.

Read on to find out the top 50 fish and chip takeaways, named in alphabetical order…
