Police were called to a caravan site in Higher Ferry, near Chester, at around midday on October 10.

Officers responded to reports concerning the safety of two people at Fir Trees Holiday Park on Ferry Lane.

A 94-year-old man was arrested in connection with her death.

An inquest was opened at Ruthin, North Wales, earlier this week into the death of retired housekeeper Ms Swain.

Coroner John Gittins said the pensioner had been in a hospital-style bed in the lounge after a fall.

Home Office pathologist Dr Brian Rodgers told the inquest Ms Swain had suffocated.

“A death which is unnatural, hence there must be an inquest,” the coroner concluded.

The hearing has been adjourned until a later date.

A North Wales Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after midday on Friday, October 10, officers responded to reports concerning the safety of two people at a caravan site on Ferry Lane, Higher Ferry.

“Upon arrival, an elderly woman – now identified as 93-year-old Eva Swain – was found deceased.

“A 94-year-old man, who was later arrested in connection with her death, has subsequently been bailed pending further inquiries.

“Further updates will be provided in due course.”
