Before embarking on the DIY craft, you need to get all the necessary materials.

Grab a crew-length child’s sock, 500 grams of long-grain rice, baker’s twine, a toilet paper roll, and, optionally, essential oils.

First, insert the toilet paper roll into the sock to keep the sock open, then pour in the rice.

It’s advised to stay away from more fragrant rices, such as jasmine or basmati.

WHAT CAN’T IT DO

Then, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil.

For a more relaxing hand-warming experience, lavender might be the preferred scent.

Finally, simply take the twine and tie it around the opening of the sock.

It’s important to make the knot as tight as possible to keep the rice and heat contained.

You can tie one knot with a string of twine and then wrap more over it with a second knot.

To heat up the sock, all you have to do is stick it in the microwave.

You can put it alongside a mug of cold water and heat it for two minutes to add some warm steam.

Once you’re done using the hand warmer, make sure to let it cool off in a safe place separate from flammable items to prevent it from becoming a fire hazard.
