Coincidence? I think not. Bosses could easily have decided on 710hp, 720hp, or even 730hp, for the most powerful production 911 ever.

The German way would be to make it a round number.

But someone thought they’d have a laugh with 711hp.

Well, we’ve got your number. We spotted the in-joke.

To be fair, I’m here for it. Porsche has nothing else to prove. The 911 is the world’s greatest sports car. So why not have a bit of fun with it?

Every model from the 911 Carrera upwards is extraordinarily good.

Now Porsche is using electrification to dial up performance to another level and save a smidge of CO2.

Right, let’s get busy.

The new Turbo S is powered by a 3.6-litre twin-turbo flat six with THREE e-motors. One in each turbo to eliminate lag.

The turbos are smaller and higher-revving than the single-turbo Carrera GTS.

The third e-motor in the eight-speed gearbox adds a huge dollop of torque.

Combine that with four-wheel drive, four-wheel steering, active aero and all sorts of electric-hydraulic chassis control, which is nothing short of wizardry, and the result is the most complete 911 yet.

Oh, yeah, I nearly forgot. The rear tyres are even wider. The brakes are bigger.

As big as the wheels on a Ford Fiesta. The titanium exhaust is lighter and sounds the nuts.

This thing is heroically fast when you want it to be — and a pussycat when you don’t.

A supreme all-rounder that’ll do long distances and day-to-day town driving with ease.

Even the front axle lift for dodging speed bumps reacts faster than before.

The only downside is the cabin, which is a bit shabby if I’m honest. They phoned it in.

Ha. I’m just kidding.

It’s almost as if the cockpit was designed around the pilot.

The seating position is first class. All the controls make perfect sense. The fit and finish is impeccable.

Then, of course, there’s the Turbo S Cabriolet for those who like to sunbathe at 200mph.

I reckon we’ll look back in 20 years’ time and say this car was the top of the top.
