Victoria Beckham’s extra special gift for husband David as he becomes knighted in ‘first time’ for the couple

DAVID Beckham will receive his long-awaited knighthood today after more than a decade of setbacks.

The football legend, 50, will today travel to Windsor Castle after being selected in the King’s Birthday Honours list.

Proudly smiling next to the ex-England and Manchester United star will be his wife Victoria, 51 – and the former popstar and fashion icon has prepared a very special gift to mark the occasion.

As reported by Mail Online, the designer has made her husband the suit which he will wear as he is honoured for his services to sport and charity.

It is not only the first time that Victoria has created a man’s morning suit complete with a tailcoat – but also the first time she has ever made David, any item of clothing.

According to the publication, the project began in June when the pair learned that footie legend Becks would be knighted in the King’s Birthday Honours.

”David teases Victoria that she never makes him any clothes,” a friend of the couple told the Daily Mail.

”So when they found out in the spring that David was going to get his big day at Windsor later in the year, Victoria decided that she had enough time to make it happen.

”She has never done anything like this before and she was aware it would be time-consuming but Victoria knew the investiture would be some way off,” the source explained.

The friend said that when Victoria started designing the suit, ”she threw herself into it” to ensure the end result was ”absolutely perfect”.

Until now, Posh’s only foray into men’s clothing has been to make a handful of more casual outfits for their youngest son Cruz, 20, to wear to her Paris Fashion Week shows.

David will also be joined today by his beloved mother Sandra, who will remain loyal to the family business by wearing a VB-designed frock, and his father, Ted, who split from his wife in 2002 after 33 years of marriage.

The ex-England and Manchester United star received the honour for services to sport and charity.

It marks the end of an agonising wait for the charity ambassador, who was first put forward for a knighthood in 2011.

Earlier this year, Sir David said he was “immensely proud” of being recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours.

He was nominated after helping to secure the London 2012 Olympics, but was initially blocked.

Honours Committee prevented him after he became caught up in a tax avoidance scheme, along with many other stars.

He retired from football in 2013, and his finances were cleared by the taxman at least four years ago.

That then paved the way for him to finally get the coveted honour.

His Spice Girl wife Victoria will now be known as Lady Beckham.

David had previously received an OBE in 2003 for services to football.

He received it from Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, watched by proud Victoria, sons Brooklyn and Romeo, and his grandparents.

Victoria’s move into men’s fashion comes just weeks after the launch of her three-part Netflix series, where she bravely opened up about crippling eating disorder and admitted she ”got very good at lying”.

Emotional documentary

In her Netflix documentary — launched at a celebrity bash in London last month — Victoria revealed she starved herself in an effort to stay thin.

She admitted she hid the condition from her family as she struggled to “stay relevant” after the group split.

“It’s been a lot, and that’s hard. I had no control over what was being written about me, the pictures being taken, and I suppose I wanted to control that,” she said.

“I could control it with the clothing, I could control my weight and I was controlling it in an extremely unhealthy way.

“When you have an eating disorder you become very good at lying and I was never honest about it with my parents.”
