RUNNING out of ideas for packed lunches?
It is half way through the autumn term, so if you need some bargain snacks to keep them full, here’s some quick suggestions.
MUFFIN LIKE IT: Forget soggy sandwiches and make pizza muffins instead. Pick up muffins, 84p, and spread on a little tomato puree, reduced to 62p, before sprinkling on some Just Essentials grated cheese, £2.79, all Asda.
You can also add ham. Grill for five minutes and let them cool before packing for cheap, pizza muffins kids will love.
SOUP-ER SAVER: A warm flask of soup is a winter winner for older kids. For a budget soup, fry diced onion and garlic, then add a chopped butternut squash and veg broth.
You could also do this in a slow cooker and pop it on overnight so it is ready in the morning.

To bulk it out, Aldi’s Super 6 fruit and veg offer includes a swede, usually 62p, now just 49p. Blend it all up and add to flasks. Plus there is plenty leftover for dinners or parent packed lunches, too.
TASTY PITTA GRUB: Using leftovers will keep costs down. Fill wholemeal pittas, 50p per pack from Morrisons, with leftover meat and veg from dinner.
Pack a little individual pot of mayo on the side, so the pitta doesn’t get too soggy before lunch.
BEST BAR NONE: Ditch pricey store-bought bars and make healthier snack bars at home.
Take 400g of rolled oats, 85p, and around 100g of golden syrup, £1.60, both Tesco, and mix. You can also add a few spoonfuls of peanut butter, nuts or dried fruit you might have lurking the cupboard.
Mix and press the mixture into a tray lined with baking paper and refrigerate before slicing into bars.
Store in an airtight container to grab on busy mornings.
EGG-CELLENT SNACK: Crack a few eggs into a bowl and whisk, then add meat, veg or anything left from dinner.
Grate some cheese into the mixture. Bake in a muffin or cupcake tin for ten minutes and when cool, pop a couple in lunch boxes. Eggs are full of protein so the kids should stay full until tea time.
