THE American Right has everything going for it, especially when compared to the wider West.
Conservatives are out of power and divided in Britain and shouting on the sidelines in France, Australia and Canada.
In Washington, the Republicans control the White House, the Senate, the House, the Supreme Court and the vibes.
And not only that, they have a “GSD” President. Ten months of Donald Trump 2.0 has more than shown he is not afraid to “Get S**t Done”.
The resilience of the US economy that still actually makes things has seen off the arbiters of doom and recession, while their opposition are so far off the pitch they have barely got their boots on.
What was once a fringe position of the far right has burst into the mainstream
Punch-drunk and reeling from that comprehensive thumping at last year’s elections, the Democrats scramble around leaderless, idealess and incoherent.
Teetering on the brink of a shift to the hard Left, Brits have seen that movie before in how it works for left-of-centre parties — in Jeremy Corbyn.
Ballot box
Call me old-fashioned but I’m not sure it is ideal when the Dems’ most prominent figure in the running for President has to spend the week being asked why voters liken him to the Wall Street businessman-turned-serial killer in 2000 film American Psycho.
There’s a reason they called chiselled and greased California Governor Gavin Newsom “America’s toxic boyfriend”.
And I suspect that will stick when it comes to the privacy of the ballot box.
Meanwhile, the Trump takeover of the Right will live on regardless of whether one of his sons take time out of earning gazillions on the side to pick up the torch and run in 2028.
Vice-President JD Vance looks on course to secure the nomination, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio is a shoo-in to complete the ticket.
Trump openly names them in some order as his successor, while JD is already cheered by crowds of MAGA youths as “48” — the number of the next occupant of the Oval Office.
Right now the future looks secure on the Right, with the Republicans likely in the White House for at least another seven years.
Which makes it all the more baffling that the core base that swept Trump back to power have decided this week to go to war with each other.
Namely over America’s long- standing support for the only bulwark democracy in the Middle East, which is defending the West against people whose expressed intention is to wipe us all off the map.
Strife over Israel is usually the preserve of the loony left, who picked up the anti-cause during the Cold War with help from Moscow as part of the Soviets’ wider war on undermining American interests.
But what was once a fringe position of the far right has burst into the mainstream.
Most Brits have probably never heard of Nick Fuentes. Indeed most Americans haven’t.
At 27, he is a dangerous, if affable and dorky, podcast kid, who looks like he wouldn’t say boo to a goose. But he runs his mouth off like a junior SS officer after too many sherbets at a Berlin bierkeller.
Calling Jews and non-Christians “evil-doers”, he ranted: “When we take power, they will need to be given the death penalty. And I’m far more concerned about that than I am about even non-white people or mass migration.”
A five-minute listen to his output is a five-minute dive down a rabbit hole of racist, antisemetic, anti-gay and anti-women discourse.
Now Vance is more than capable of handling himself, but it will be far from a one- off if this rotten seam is not stamped on urgently.
He’s big online, but has consistently been shunned by mainstream figures on the Right.
The late Charlie Kirk warned Fuentes was a poison that would toxify real conservatives if he was given an inch.
Yet this week, Fuentes was mainstreamed to a degree by Tucker Carlson, the former Fox News polemicist-turned- independent-media tycoon.
Their interview has upset plenty and exposed his bile to millions more.
At the same time, appearing on our own Saves The West show, Tucker refused to criticise fellow right-wing online megastar Candace Owens, even after her inflammatory claims that her late friend Kirk was murdered in some sort of Jewish conspiracy.
This was the week anti-Israel sentiment and antisemitism exploded on to the airwaves and conversations on the right.
Race-baiting
It is heartbreaking and frustrating to see mainstream power brokers, like the Heritage Foundation think tank, no longer criticising Fuentes.
While it might be comforting to put this down to a few wackos race-baiting for clicks, this is having an impact too.
Appearing at a rally in Mississippi on Wednesday, Vance came face to face with Fuentes fanboys, who took him to task on Israel.
He was forced to answer questions about the faith of his Hindu wife.
And he was endlessly hammered on wider foreign policy, with calls for America to become more isolationist — to the delight of bad guys all around the world.
Now Vance is more than capable of handling himself, but it will be far from a one- off if this rotten seam is not stamped on urgently.
Fuentes is threatening to flood every primary stop and rally of Vance’s with “10,000 Groypers” — the nickname for his ultra-loyal followers — if he “gives one inch” to Israel.
One argument goes that by bringing these figures into the open it will moderate their views and temper them.
But frankly I think that’s a cop out.
The Republicans must give these false idols short shrift and a closed door.
THE Arctic Frost is a type of orange tree that flourishes in Florida, but can withstand the cold winter of New York.
So it was less than subtle that the FBI used it as the code name in their operation to take down Donald Trump.
And the more we learn about the lengths they went to during the early days of the Biden administration, the harder my jaw hits the floor.
There were 197 subpoenas sought on 34 individuals and 163 businesses including Trump, his family, his friends, his lawyers, advisers and prominent supporters.
And not to forget major news organisations and their journalists, sitting Senators and Congressmen to boot. Phone records, bank records, emails, data, all up for grabs, while publicly the Democrats insisted they were cleaning up politics.
The only thing that dwarfs the scale of this unconstitutional and wholly unprecedented fishing trip is the stinking hypocrisy.
