THE King faces a race to resolve Prince Andrew’s future as MPs yesterday set a four-week deadline for answers over his Royal Lodge lease deal.
Efforts to get the former duke to leave the 30-room Windsor mansion where he lives with ex-wife Sarah Ferguson have lasted almost two and a half years.
No rent has been paid there for 22 years.
Parliament’s spending watchdog, the Public Accounts Committee, has written to the Treasury and Crown Estate asking it to explain the lease by November 28.
Its chairman, Tory MP Sir Geoffrey Clifton-Brown, asked if taxpayers had funded any work on the building.
He also asked if Andrew’s tenancy was “the most appropriate use or best value for money”.
Andrew has asked for Harry and Meghan’s old home, nearby Frogmore Cottage, if he is evicted.
Fergie asked for Kate and William’s former pad, Adelaide Cottage.
Dickie Arbiter, former press secretary to Queen Elizabeth, said: “It has to be resolved as soon as possible.”
“He needs to be sorted before the end of the year.
“This has been going on long enough.”
Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
