AN alleged stalker claiming to be missing Maddie McCann was told by the missing tot’s dad Gerry: “You are not Madeleine.”
Julia Wandelt told a court that Kate started crying as she confronted them.
But the 24-year-old said she rejected calls from pals to yank out the distraught mum’s hair for DNA testing to prove she was Madeleine.
Wandelt is said to have harassed the McCanns over three years, repeatedly claiming to be Madeleine, and travelling to their home in Rothley, Leics, to demand a DNA test, prosecutors allege.
She told Leicester crown court she made the trip with co-accused Karen Spragg, 61, after GP Kate ignored her persistent attempts to contact her.
She did not know what to say when Kate started crying and they left when Gerry arrived and said: “I think you need help. You are not Madeleine.”
Asked if she had touched Kate, she replied: “No. Other people said I should take her hair, but I would never do this.”
Wandelt, of Lubin, Poland, and Spragg, of Cardiff, each deny stalking involving serious alarm or distress between June 2022 and February this year.
Wandelt allegedly bombarded Kate and Gerry with calls, letters and messages.
She is also said to have made unwanted attempts to contact Madeleine’s younger twin siblings.
Madeleine vanished aged three in Portugal, in May 2007.
The trial continues.
