Alejandro Garnacho risks wrath of Chelsea boss with awkward fashion faux pas arriving for Sunderland clash

ALEJANDRO GARNACHO bagged his first goal in a Chelsea shirt when he opened the scoring against Sunderland.

It was one of the few silver linings for the Blues on what turned out to be a rather desperate afternoon.

You would think that would have the Argentine firmly in the good books at Stamford Bridge this week, however a fashion faux-pas risked upsetting one half of the ownership.

Todd Boehly is not only one half of Chelsea‘s American ownership, but he is also part of the group which owns the LA Dodgers baseball franchise.

So the 52-year-old might well have been disappointed to see one of his big summer signings arriving wearing an Oakland A’s baseball cap.

Not only a different franchise, but one of the Dodgers’ Californian rivals!

Chelsea secured the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United in the summer for £40million, and his goal at the weekend was the 21-year-old’s first real sign of repaying the investment made in him.

The jury is still out on him, given Chelsea have a long list of wingers, but none of them have truly proven themselves to be consistent goal scorers this season.

There’s no doubt that, on his day, Garnacho is a real game-changer, but he’ll have to fight it out with fellow new signing Jamie Gittens for a regular starting spot on the left wing.

Chelsea will hope to put behind them the disappointment of losing to Sunderland when they take on Wolves in the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Manager Enzo Maresca is likely to have Liam Delap back for the first time in six weeks.

However, they will have to wait longer for star man Cole Palmer, who is still not back in training.

His absence is compounded by the fact that Maresca recently confirmed Joao Pedro, Enzo Fernandez, and Moises Caicedo are all playing through pain and unable to train as consistently as they would like.

They are also without the influential Levi Colwill, who isn’t expected to return until next year, while Wesley Fofana is being managed carefully.
