PADDINGTON: The Musical launches at London’s Savoy Theatre this week and no one is more excited than us.
But if the tickets seem pricey, we’ve sniffed out the best tricks for seeing a musical or theatre performance for less.
Here you go . . .
BOOK EARLY: January is often quiet at the theatre, so book now and save.
A ticket for a Paddington evening show next week could set you back £40, but in January you can still find tickets from £25 — see paddingtonthemusical.com
MAKE A DAY OF IT: For bargain prices, try bagging last-minute seats on the day.
Ring the theatre when the box office opens and ask for the best price, or if they have had any cancellations.
Another option is to download the TodayTix app. It sells on-the-day tickets for great prices.
MIDWEEK STEAL: Swerve the pricier weekend and Friday evening slots by booking for a Tuesday or Wednesday night instead.
You’ll often find tickets for half the price of a Saturday show, and the theatres are less crammed too.
KIDS’ OFFERS: Always check for children’s pricing first. Many theatres, such as the National and Shakespeare’s Globe, offer tickets for under-18s, at prices ranging from £10 to £20.
The London Palladium often offers kids’ half-price deals for midweek shows.
Also, sign up for family theatre mailing lists, to get early-bird alerts.
TRAIN TICKET TRICK: Planning a London trip by train?
Book your train tickets weeks ahead and look for Group Save discounts if you’re travelling with more than three in your group.
Many theatres accept train tickets for 2-for-1 tickets.
See National Rail’s Daysoutguide.co.uk for more information.
MEAL DEALS: Theatre snacks are always expensive.
Instead, stock up on sweets beforehand, and take a reusable water bottle.
Pack some Robinsons Mini Apple & Blackcurrant On the Go Squash, £2.75, from Sainsbury’s.
- All prices on page correct at time of going to press. Deals and offers subject to availability.
