This season, the high street is embracing a wave of royal-inspired country style – think heritage checks, tweed, corduroy, Argyle knits and wool in all its cosy forms.
The look takes its cue from the timeless wardrobe of Queen Elizabeth II, who spent her summers at Balmoral Castle, surrounded by family and the rolling Scottish hills.
Fond of outdoor pursuits, such as horse riding, fishing and long country walks, she was always impeccably dressed for the elements – favouring practical yet elegant waterproofs and classic tweeds.
More recently, the Princess of Wales has incorporated the trend into her wardrobe, favouring waxed jackets, tweed skirts and silk neck scarves for official engagements.
And Claudia Winkleman‘s gothic-country wardrobe in The Traitors, filmed at Ardross Castle, has helped drive the trend further.
Thanks to her stylist Sinead McKeefry, the presenter’s looks – from Alexander McQueen tartan trousers to cosy Argyle knits – have become a masterclass in modern heritage dressing.
On the high street, brands such as Boden, M&S and Barbour are leading the charge, while collaborations like Lands’ End x Harris Tweed and Monsoon x Sarah Corbett-Winder capture the spirit of the trend perfectly.
