A 2000s singer has reemerged after leaving Hollywood to build a new life on a farm in Kenya.
Most notably known for her hit track, Milkshake, Kelis, 46, distanced herself from the celebrity scene and settled down in Africa earlier this year.
The New York native decided to relocate with her three children to the country after being inspired by a 2024 trip there.
Kelis initially planned a short visit but extended her stay and purchased 300 acres of land in Naivasha, which is surrounded by the popular wildlife destination Lake Naivasha National Park.
It appears the performer couldn’t be happier about the move, as she’s been updating her 2.8million Instagram followers.
In August, Kelis shared several videos of her bonding with the wildlife, including feeding giraffes and petting lions in Tanzania.
She also posted a clip of her enjoying the water in the Seychelles, before getting smacked by a giant wave.
The Bossy singer was clearly caught off guard by the massive wave that drenched her from head to toe.
“Little did I know this wave is a HATER,” Kelis joked in her caption.
Earlier this month, Kelis shared more posts about her new living quarters, including another clip of her hanging out with giraffes and zebras.
Additionally, she posted a video of herself boasting about the friendly people, amenities, and affordable healthcare Kenya offers.
She noted that these factors influenced her to trade her life in America for life in East Africa.
“My Honest 2cents as an American living in Kenya it’s one thing to come for vacation but it’s different when you live here and experience everyday life I’m from HARLEM so I’m still a city girl who loves the country KENYA is the perfect balance for me,” Kelis said in her caption.
Fans praised the hitmaker for making the transition away from Hollywood, though many pointed out she hasn’t given up everything about her glitzy lifestyle with her big, red hair and manicured nails.
TRAGIC LOSS
Kelis appeared to find solace and peace in Africa after dealing with heartbreak following the death of her husband, Mike Mora, in 2022.
Mike died at the age of 37 after a battle with Stage 4 stomach cancer.
It was only months earlier that the photographer had shared his diagnosis on social media.
He was diagnosed in 2020 after experiencing symptoms he thought were due to a stomach ulcer.
Mike and Kelis are parents to two children, and Kelis has an older child with her ex-husband, Nas.
UNEXPECTED ROMANCE
A year after Mike’s death, Kelis briefly dated actor Bill Murray, shocking fans with their unlikely romance.
Sources told The U.S. Sun that the pair bonded over the loss of their spouses, as Bill’s estranged wife passed away in 2021.
Their age gap also surprised fans as Bill is 30 years older than Kelis.
They parted ways after two months, and an insider revealed “things just ran their course.”
