A FORMER Strictly Come Dancing star has found herself emerging in the race for the job of the show’s host.
Long-running presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman stunned the world when they revealed they would be leaving the programme for good yesterday.
It has seen a whole host of speculation as to who may replace them.
But an unlikely candidate appears to have emerged after an overwhelming fan response.
Many Strictly viewers have insisted that TV presenter Angela Scanlon, who competed on the show in 2023, could be the next co-host.
They have insisted she would be perfect for Claudia’s role of interviewing the celebrities after they receive the judges comments.
Writing on Reddit, one fan suggested: “Angela Scanlon is the best and realistic candidate to take Claudia’s role running the Claudatorium.
“Naturally witty and charming with a long history of presenting BBC shows.”
Someone else echoed in agreement, as they said: “Really liked Angela since her turn on the Robot Wars reboot. She’d be good up in the Green room.”
A third posted: “Yeah would like her in this role as she’s has a really dry sense of humour and is witty.
“Would be good in her own AngeArena upstairs!”
With a fourth commenting: “The Angitheatre. You’re welcome.”
Before a fifth penned: “Bloody good shout and not too huge.”
Tess and Claudia stunned fans when they confirmed they would be exiting the programme together after the current series.
BBC bosses have been blindsided by their departure, with only a small number of people in the TV industry made aware of their intentions.
It’s understood they secretly filmed the exit video weeks ago — and released it mid-series so as not to overshadow the eventual winner.
Their last show will be on Christmas Day. A source said: “Claudia and Tess have known they were leaving Strictly since last year. They felt like it was their time to go.
“They discussed this privately and agreed they would walk away together, but kept it firmly under wraps.
“Claudia and Tess then told the BBC they would be signing a one-year deal and then calling it quits.
“It’s incredible they’ve managed to keep it a secret for so long. Only the top brass at the BBC knew, along with their immediate family.
“Strictly has been an incredible journey for them both and they have loved every second.”
It’s understood bosses and talent hold discussions every November about the following year’s show, and this is when Tess, 56, and Claudia, 53, are thought to have decided to leave.
