Which players are responsible for the highest percentage of their team’s goals this season?

DREAM TEAM managers should be aware of each Premier League team’s biggest attacking threat.

We’ve crunched the numbers to find which players are involved (either by scoring or assisting) in the highest percentage of their side’s goals so far this season.

7 Jean-Philippe Mateta – 40%

A recent additionCredit: PA

The Frenchman would not have made this list prior to his hat-trick against Bournemouth but scoring three goals in one game does tend to make a difference.

Mateta has scored or assisted 40% of Crystal Palace’s goals and there may be more to come as he’s the player who has under-performed against his xG the most in the Premier League this campaign.

The Eagles have registered the joint-most shots on target in the top flight and if their star striker is able to convert a few more chances then his numbers could go stratospheric.

Mateta has five goals and one assist to his name.

6 Jaidon Anthony – 41.7%

Having previously contributed four goal involvements in 33 Premier League appearances before this season, the Burnley midfielder has already notched four goals and one assist this campaign.

Anthony has scored at Old Trafford and the Etihad and was involved in both goals when the Clarets beat Sunderland 2-0 back in Gameweek 2 — a result that looks great now the Black Cats are seventh in the table level on points with Chelsea and Tottenham.

Dream Team bosses will be reluctant to back a Burnley player but their No11 deserves plenty of credit for his recent efforts.

5 Igor Thiago – 42.9%

Only a certain Norwegian poacher has scored more goals than Brentford’s main man at the time of writing.

Thiago is personally responsible for six of the Bees’ 14 goals in all competitions and he’s yet to provide an assist — proper striker behaviour.

The Brazilian’s best moment came in Gameweek 6 when he bagged a brace against Manchester United for a 17-point return.

4 Jack Grealish – 45.5%

The Everton loanee would not feature in this list if had we ignored assists but few fans would complain about him being painted as a talismanic figure.

Grealish has scored just one goal but it was the Toffees’ crucial stoppage-time winner against Palace.

His main contribution is his tally of four assists, all of them coming in the league.

The 30 year-old midfielder was not eligible to face his parent club last weekend and will be raring to go against Spurs in Gameweek 9.

3 Jarrod Bowen & El Hadji Malick Diouf – 50%

It’s almost a universal opinion that West Ham would be stuffed without their captain and the stats only reinforce this thought.

Bowen has scored or assisted half of his team’s goals this season, not that there have been many of them.

The England international has had some help from the Hammers’ flying left-back, who has registered four assists in quick time.

In fact, Diouf is the outright assist leader among all Dream Team defenders.

2 Erling Haaland – 64%

The only surprise here is that Manchester City’s prolific No9 is not first on the list!

Haaland has raced to 15 goals (and one assist) in all competitions to leave all his rivals in the dust — the Golden Boot already feels like a formality.

Phil Foden is the club’s second-top scorer with two goals but City have had eight different goalscorers in total.

Pep Guardiola’s side are the highest scorers (17 goals) in the league after eight games.

1 Antoine Semenyo – 71.4%

It’s remarkable but Bournemouth are actually more reliant on their star man than Man City are on Haaland.

Semenyo has started the season in superb form with six goals and four assists in just nine outings.

HORROR STORY

I nearly died after the Yorkshire Ripper attacked me with a screwdriver

Hence why the skilful Ghana international is currently Dream Team’s leading midfielder.

The Cherries are an excellent team, smartly coached by Andoni Iraola, but these stats suggest they would be badly hampered by an injury to Semenyo — he’s been involved in over two thirds of their goals so far!
